Flu jabs are available now

I just got a flu vaccination at my local Boots. It cost me £12.50.

I tried to get one last year after all the Aussie flu reports started coming in, but by the time I got round to it, they'd run out.

From what the pharmacist was saying, they reckon they'll run out again.

It protects against 4 different strains of flu and, if you're unlucky enough to catch one of the others, it significantly lessens the symptoms.

Well worth it, imo.

Absolutely agree it is so worth it. There is a documentary coming on BBC about the Flu in 1918. Devastated the world in the wake of the biggest wast of life that was WW1. You do not get flu from the jab, that is a myth. Check out the flu jab mythbusters and do it. A pandemic will happen one year. Be be prepared.

You could get mild flu like symptoms but they only last 24 hours.

Its not a live vaccine. I cant get live ones like the MMR but can get the flu jag.

That’s it. Its a total myth that you catch flu from the jab. You can get a bit of a rise in temperature afterwards as your body reacts and make anti-bodies.

I think other people's replies are showing up as mine when quoted. Couldn't do that if I tried! But I echo all the advocates for the jab. Also if you are in a vulnerable group healthwise or a healthcare provider it will be free. Hopefully it will become free for all as the cost of a pandemic or even an outbreak in a hospital will far outweigh the cost of a jab. A local hospital here today is considering a cancellation of all "non urgent" ops for six months due to the high demand on beds and this is before the normal winter scenario. NHS is really struggling. I am in Cambridge and only have the data for here and the London area but imagine it's the same all over. Staff doing their best in the worst of circumstances.

Well, it's the day after my vaccination and I can report no symptoms at all.

I didn't sleep particularly well, but that was probably due to the tension of the Hibs game rather than the jab, and I feel fine now I've had a coffee.

I'm setting an annual reminder for my flu Jan. It says flu begins in Autumn so mid September seems a good time to prepare.

On the back of this thread I've decided to take up the offer of a free flu jab that my work offers. It might be in the works benefit as they'll lose less staff over winter but it's surely in my benefit to take up the offer.

I've only ever had "proper" flu once in my life when I was younger, was absolutely drained and wiped out and at one point whilst trying to stand up I had an unplanned evacuation of my bowels,,,,I can laugh now but it certainly wasn't funny then, standing in your own mess and zero energy to remedy the situation!

Got mine in Asda, £7, the other week.

To be honest I never felt a thing and had no side effects. I so felt nothing I'm not convinced she gave me it!

Yes, I tried unsuccessfuly to get the egg free one for colleagues who were allergic to egg products. They ended up paying for it which always felt wrong to me. They were frontline health staff who should have been provided with a free vaccination

Didn't leave the house for around 2 weeks as it bloody drained the life out of me.

Had it on Monday as last year i kept putting it off as i was too busy/lazy to go and get it, and i get it free too.

Ive had it badly once, it is probably the most ill i have ever felt - people habe trivialised it bt confusing colds and viruses as a 'touch of flu', which is dangerous as its a bery serious illness.

I have Crohns so qualify for a free flu jab, even if i had to pay for it i would, i dont want to feel like i did last year ever again. :boo hoo:
