I was looking at pictures of ER and came across this one. What's the story with all the red shirts in the West Stand?

That was my first thought but looks like a Hibs player beside the home dugout.

That's the non Scotland game that was played at ER. Cannot remember who it was though.

I think an African team v a European team but can't remember the details.

Any idea why this fixture was played at ER?

Above folk are correct, was indeed South Korea v Ghana in a warm up friendly for the 2006 WC. Went along to it and sat West lower, seem to remember it finishing 2-1 Ghana but can’t be sure. Thing I always remember about that game was the South Korean fans chanting “we are the people”[emoji853]. Not really been my favourite of the Asian teams since then!

From memory Dick Advocat was manager of Korea and they were training at Murray Park before the World Cup.
Why specifically Easter Road? Don't know! Maybe Advocat was a Hibby

Because we’ve got a good stadium?

Can't be as Ghana were in the west stand and the Koreans were in the east.

Looks remarkably decent crowd judging by the youtube footage, given that neither side are what you'd term a big draw for neutrals.

Was actually a really enjoyable occasion. Loads of Korean fans who made constant noise.

There was a big Korean support there. Remember being puzzled by their half time snacks. They all had lunchboxes with boiled eggs and fish etc. There were some top players on display, including Essien and Park if I remember rightly.

Right before the World Cup involving two teams who had qualified for the tournament probably ensured a decent crowd.

I went because I wanted to see players like Michael Essien and Stephen Appiah (who was an absolute beast!).

Added to that, it was a beautiful sunny day with 2 completely different cultures coming together at Easter Road.

Did the Koreans tidy the stadium after the game was finished?

Or is it just their neighbours, the Japanese, that do that?

Seeing Essien in his prime was definitely worth it, brilliant player

I remember that they cheered the players rather than the play they wouldn't react to a late challenge or a good pass but would scream if park or another Korean moved towards them

the hardcore Korean fans were in the old east that day and made a fair racket. Essien bossed the game - truly impressive.

Hearts were, at the time, rumoured to be very interested in one of the South Korean players which added an extra angle to the occasion. I was there too and it was a pretty noisy crowd from all over the UK and further afield!
