Strips ok.

No point moaning about it, people like white away kits and since it's not 1975 anymore that means we need a 3rd kit that doesn't clash with Celtic.

Personally with the increase in teams wearing alternate kits in most away games I'd like to see Scotland try an NFL style kit system. With each team having a colour and white kit that is standard home and away wear and is kept for 2 or 3 seasons and then release a 'colour rush' and 'throwback' kit every season to wear a few times.

Killie and Accies away too. They’ve got white in their home kits...so neither home or away kits would be acceptable.

I'm not against having one, but w do we need a third strip because of Celtc?

Surely one wears their home the other wears their away?

Its not really a question of needing it for the event of a colour clash, its 2018 thats not what "alternative" strips are about these days. I understand and agree with the Club releasing another strip, it will sell a few and brings more money into the club. If you dont like it or support the club releasing it then simply dont buy it.

On the actual strip it doesnt float my boat but Im sure it will sell. I'd place the three strips actually in 1st strip, 2nd strip and 3rd strip in my own personal preference league table.

Should Hibs not make a profit?
Do the staff working in the club store selling the kit work for free?
Is electricity and heating to run the shop gifted to us by our utilities supplier?
Do we pay rates to the council?
Is our online store free to host and maintain?

I think the point was that they should have put a wee bit more effort in to make it a "Hibs" top rather than a template plus Hibs badge.

The retail operation is run by a 3rd party, PSL sports.

I take your wider point but Hibs aren't making a profit on every unit sold.

The amount we receive from PSL will be based on the amount of money they can make selling our merchandise.

Of course increased sales put us in a stronger negotiating position when the contract renewal comes up.

'Strong strip sales' is often used as a stick to beat the club with when we don't sign a coveted player and it's worth pointing out short term a few extra units shifted has little impact. Equally outsourcing the store is a sensible decision as it passes many of the other overheads you mention to someone else.

Pretty Boy
19-09-2018, 06:27 PM
Really?

I'm pretty sure that will be the case. If we are making anything it will be a very small amount.

There's a reason Adidas paid Man Utd £800M to manufacture their kits. It's to make money from sales for themselves, Utd only get a percentage of profit after a minimum number of units are sold.

Generally franchise agreements (I once had a flooring one) involve the details you describe above but usually a cut of the sale value too, typically between 8-10% of value (not profit)

I really like this one. Ironically, the generic template kit is better than the ones we get to customise with dodgy collars and the like.

Also, glad to see my pet hate of having Glory Glory on the back with a sponsor and player name and number has been removed on this one.

Dunno why people get so worked up about strips being templates - a lot of folk despised us being with Nike because teams in other countries had a strip with the same collar etc. If it’s a nice template then I don’t really care if 50 other teams have it, none of them will be as good as a Hibs strip.

Ok thanks. But what about colour rush kit?

All one colour. If you play on Thursday night, you wear a color (American spelling) rush kit.

Jets will be all green, Redskins maroon, Dolphins Teal, 49ers red, etc.

Hibs would play in all Green.

Marketing and shirts sales. American sports shirts don't change often as there's a collective maker and no sponsors so one way to sell more.

For the most part they're actually nicer than the regular ones!

J

Dolphins colour rush was all orange, Seahawks had a luminous green and the Cardinals was all yellow so they weren't all just a variant on the traditional primary shirt colour.

I was thinking it would keep the traditional brigade happy as our away colours would always be white so that would allow us to release an all yellow, all purple, all mint green, all black and so on every so often and let the designers have a bit fun.

Equally I think there's merit in a 'throwback' style. Hibs running out in a 70s style top with a more discreet sponsor for a couple of games a season, the all green with white collar and cuffs Blackpoolhibs is so fond of, a nod to the Skol Cup or SC winning shirts, a Sauzee era recreation, a 1950s rugby style shirt, maybe even hoops. A lot of them would be very popular. As said above in the NFL the throwback kits are often nicer than the current efforts, certainly the case with the Dolphins effort.

It likely wouldn't work in Scotland but it would be an interesting thing for a club to try for 2 or 3 seasons to see the fan reaction.
