Another boring Champions League game tonight. It's only has the 3 goals so far in the first half and end to end action so I've turned over to some proper football on Sky and I'm enjoying watching two great clubs in Stoke and Swansea battling out a pulsating 0-0 so far.

It shouldn't even be called the Champions League as it's not only Champions in it.

Id much prefer to see the the Latvian Champions squaring off against the Champions of Finland , that would be a far more engrossing contest. TV money has ruined football.

You mean the local streets of rows of terraced houses where many have lay derelict for years. Or are you talking about years ago when they built the centenary stand and slowly bought the houses over many years but had to stall the whole project due to one final resident rejecting all the offers of new property etc. They could have forced her out but never did.

I’m not sure what to make of Salah’s reaction. On face value, it looks like petulant, selfish anger that Liverpool scored without his involvement and that taking him off won them the game. Perhaps you could interpret it (unlikely) as Yessssss, we’ve got the winner.

Yes it certainly looked petulant however it could just be him releasing his anger over his own poor performance. I am pretty sure there will be some comment on it over the next couple of days. Back to the football, I was really surprised at the total lack of urgency from PSG. They are miles away from being a force on that performance despite their obvious superstars. Domestic dominance has allowed them to coast it seems.

Watched the whole game John, and you're right, it wasn't great. Although Villa are a huge club I'm not sure the style of football allows McGinn to shine. He seems to sit in to provide cover for Hutton when he charges up the wing then can't cross it with his left foot. If it was McGinn doing the charging forward he could at least whip the ball into the box!

Having said all that, I thought SJM had a great 2nd half after a fairly indifferent first.

Viktoria Plzen themselves do well for their size. They have dominated the top flight for pretty much the last ten years despite having less resource than the two big Prague clubs. Having spoken to Sparta and Slavia fans the consensus is that it’s as simple as them being a well-run club who know their business.

Juve much the better side especially before Ronldo got sent off for an off the ball incident which having seen it a few times Im still not sure what quite went on, Valencia not produced much, Juve three really good chances, plus hit the bar and scored with penalty (lad got booted in the head, pretty definate). Still 11 v 10 could be an interesting second half and I guess if anyone can defend a 1 goal lead with 10 players its Juve.

boy that scores bayerns 2nd in benfica receives a lot of applause from the home fans as they loved him when he was on loan at them last season....imagine a few on here would go apoplectic if that happened at ER again...like the killie(i think it was) goal against us last season when a few hibs fans(myself included) dared to applaud a crackin goal against us :greengrin

Mmmm, pilsner urquell, my all time fave lagery type beer.

And yet they serve Gambrinus at Viktoria for some inexplicable reason.

Good 2-2 draw. Plzen play neat, tidy football and well-deserved the 2-0 lead at the break. The CSKA coach clearly put a rocket under his guys and they came out and pulled one back quickly.

Plzen probably had had the best of play for most of the second but couldn’t convert and then succumbed to that universal problem of getting to the last ten and wanting to hold on for the win.

Cue the Russians throwing the kitchen sink (or kitchen samovar) at them and having two goals disallowed ( one for a foul, one for offside) before winning a penalty and duly converting to grab a draw.

The catering was very different from Hibs. Beer for barely more than a pound and a range of big, meaty things - quarter pounders, spicy sausages etc. It was just as busy as ER would be but the difference appeared to be simply more staff - somebody took the order and the money, folk behind them poured the pints or dished up the food. The staff themselves were just as young-looking as the staff at ER but clearly well-drilled and had a lot more space to work in, and that’s in a stadium barely more than half our size.

Just seen the Ronaldo sending off offence. An absolute travesty.
Yes, Ronaldo did touch the guys hair, ruffling it for definite and maybe, just maybe, slightly tugging it for a split second, but a red card???
I've seen far worse acts of violence perpetrated against John McGinn with not even a yellow brandished.

Now to the Europa League tonight:

Villarreal V The Rangers
Celtic v Rosenborg

I really hope sevco get a good auld doing tonight, if villarreal turn up i can see a 3-0 scoreline

Celtic V Rosenborg will no doubt be a snoozefest with a 2-0 Celtic win anticipated by myself

Be very interesting to see what the Red Bull scoreline will be tonight with Leipzig V Salzburg, both in Celtic's group. Stick on 1-1 !!!

And resting players. Complacency in there methinks......

I think resting players in the early stages of the Europa league is pretty standard for a lot of teams. Villareal havent started well in Spain this season and have a match against Valencia this weekend followed by Athletic Bilbao midweek. Teams rotate players, they obviously feel they have to.
