Sorry if already discussed in the match thread but the official Hibs report makes pretty clear its scorn for Hearts flooding their side with first team players (presumably with the primary intention of ensuring they beat the Hibs kids, such is their focus on winning the derby at ANY level). Would have been quite amusing if it had backfired on them.

Why, when it is the new SPFL reserve league do Hibs continue fielding a Development Squad? Is this a financial thing to reduce the number of >20 yr olds on the books. Regardless, it is good experience for the young lads.

Probably because we want our younger players to develop, by playing against older players

The reserve league hasn’t really changed anything, other than the name of the competition. You could play overage players in the development league and it’s the same in this.

Teams will give first team players a run out when they need it but imagine it’ll predominantly be young players that play. Stands to reason Hearts would play a few older players given they have about 50 on the books. Works out better for our young players playing against them anyway IMO.

They've signed about 50 first team players, so need to give them games. :greengrin

I notice the Evening News has assessed the experience levels in both teams and as this article shows the Hibs lads were up against an exceptionally experienced Hearts side with well over 200 first team appearances between them. Sounds like the Hibs kids did well.

After reading the column, what it appears to say, is that Hertz are blooding more young players in their first team than Hibs?
The experience the journo is referring is to do with first team games.
We have a good crop of youngsters, but we don't seem to bring them in as early as some other teams!
But, the biggest overriding problem at Hertz is they were forced to go down that route, we don't have that problem and seem to be slower in promoting our budding young stars.
