Think Livvi have one, did it plenty of time at the weekend
Did Hibs goal on Saturday not come from a long throw?

Goal kind of came from the thrown in but was a bit of a scrap more than anything else - depends what you mark as a passage of play I guess.

I do think for years we’ve needed to improve on attacking and defending throw ins, as was clear for Livi’s 2nd goal, when the ball is out of play it is viewed as some sort of rest or something, far too many switch off.

Erich Schaedlers throw ins were like corner kicks.

I was reading an article about some player that was playing in Italy. Said he struggled with the managers (as in mind blown) as he tried to get him to learn over 40 ways to take a throw in.

Might have been on here somewher

I don't understand our lack of ability to throw the ball to someones feet so it can be easier controlled instead of 2 - 3 feet in the air. Also the time we take for a selected player to take it instead of whoever is nearest looking to take advantage of what after all is a set piece.
Would love to see some out of the box thinking, perhaps like throwing it off the back of a player (of either team) who isn't looking. Not sure if you would be booked for that tho?

Same with goal kicks. All the players tend to move towards one side of the pitch and the ball is lumped into the middle of them hoping someone gets a head to it and directs it to a teammate. How often does that work?

In Martin Boyle we have one of the fastest players in Scotland. Could he not stand nearest the open space/side of the pitch and as the keeper kicks it into the open space he goes like a greyhound after it hopefully leaving a defender in his shadow and he is clean through!

We need one of these along with a "stop taking short corners" specialist.

Agree 100%
What is it with the short corners?
Just swing it in!
OK they might have big defenders but we have Hanlon or Porteous or keep the high balls low.
Create a chance in the box for sniffers like Jamie Mac.
I am sure a short corner recently resulted in a goal for the opposition WTF!

Can we have a "how to aim shots below the crossbar" Coach?

We'd be top of the league just now if we learnt how to do that.

Efe ambrose has quite a long throw, any throwing we get around the opposition box should put thrown into the penalty spot

Corners are the perfect opportunity for teams to break if you balls it up and as you say, leads to the opposition scoring. Get it into the box, at the very worst, it comes off one of our own players and goes out for a goal kick. Losing it cheaply from a short corner is one of the worst things that can happen.

Totally agree we take ages taking them (especially Lewis) however there is very little movement which is another bugbear of mine. We invariably throw a high ball and lose itmost times. These are basic areas for improvement and we have video analysis ofgames so I do not understand why this has been an issue for a few seasons now. That and putting somebody on the “D” for corners both for and against. I don’tthink the coaching is as good as it should be!

I’m sure the new boy Milligan can chuck a long one.

Every ball blootered over the bar was accompanied by the commentator on Hibs TV saying "he was leaning back" So we obviously need a "how to lean forward whilst kicking a ball" coach

I think you've hit upon one of the reasons that Scottish football has fallen miles behind the rest of the world - lack of professionalism and attention to detail together with a sniffy "what next" attitude to innovation. Throw ins are by far the most common set piece in the game and for me it's an absolute no brainer that coaching/tactics/technical training should take this into account - but apparently that's the exception rather than the rule!

FWIW we were quite good at throw ins while we had McGinn in the team - simply because he would regularly make himself available and had the strength and skill to hold off opponents and easilly control the ball. Obviously other players in our current squad need to up their game in this respect. We should really be seeing three or four options appearing for EVERY throw in - with loss of possession being a rarity.
