Horrible for jobs, but incredible and great for customers.

How does it know you have picked something up as opposed to someone standing next to you?

The technology is impressive, but I'm not sure any multi-national moving towards market domination is ever good for customers.

"What would shapping look like if you could walk into a store, grab what you want and just go?"

It would look like shaplifting.

Don't see how its great for customers? Because you can avoid a few minutes in a que and avoid human interaction? I Hope this fails miserably, I don't want amazon to be the sole company available to purchase from in the future.

That looks class. I'm not sure how the technology can be so accurate, it's almost scary, but the convenience of just walking in, taking what you want, and off you pop is incredible. I'm sure there will be flaws to work through with it that will delay it going mainstream for a long time anyway.

Yes, not having to queue is great for customers. Personally, I want to get out of shops as quickly as possible and interaction with someone at the till is of no importance to me.

We've already got self scan systems in supermarkets and they're very popular.

Why would Amazon be the only company? If their technology is successful and popular, it'll be copied by Tesco and ASDA etc.

at least it would solve being 3rd in the only till open queue at Aldi with 7 people behind, only for them to open new tills and all the folk behind to get served before you.

You'd think they'd know how to pronounce "Amazon" properly.

Have you heard the various ways Americans pronounce "Edinburgh"?

The temptation to correct them is overwhelming.

The wonderful (American) comic Allan Havey did a bit about that very thing in his Fringe show, taking the P out of his countryfolk who pronounce it "burg", "boro".. etc.

Our safe-word is Glasgow."

Reminds me of a guy I know who, while using an automated telephone system in an American hotel, had to pronounce "aperaror" (after failing 3 times with "operator") to get an international line.
