View Full Version : Great Things About Hibs

I am sick of all the petty gripe, moans and general mumpiness on here. Barely a thread goes by but an argument starts, negativity rises and players get shot down.

Let's have one thread at least where positivity reigns and we all look forward to being a Hi-bee.

Admins, please feel free to empty any negative comments.

50 Years a Hibee, raised in Windsor Street, within the ROAR of Easter Road. Sorry to lose a couple of great legends this season but the Club is bigger than a couple of players. Plenty of new talent to come in and take us forward. There will be ups and downs, but We Are Hibernian FC! Behind the squad and manager 100%.

Guess that makes me a a Happy Clapper! :flag::flag::flag::flag::flag:

We're the 'cool' club in a 2 team city. A lot of cities have such a phenomenon.

You'd struggle to make Hearts interesting enough to become a significant minor 'character' in various aspects of pop culture. They couldn't take a song that could perhaps be described as kitsch and turn it into an iconic football anthem. We're like the eccentric uncle of football teams whilst Hearts are the stern, overbearing and uninteresting Father.

Oh and despite all the issues listed in the OP we have one of the best fans forums in the country.

When I was a bairn at school I used to spend the weekdays counting down until I could see the Hibs again.

I'm 47 on Friday, and that excitement has returned in recent years. I wake on a Saturday when Hibs are at home and cannae wait to get to ER (admittedly via Robbie's Bar 😁); the thrill of walking along Albion Road as the ground gets closer is still there. Love the Hibs.

The most positive thing has been the rebirth of Hibernian Football Club.

Since we were relegated there has been a complete overhaul of the club which has reconnected the whole club. The players, the management and the fans are all as one.

You see so many people proudly wearing Hibs merchandise around town now because this club is worth supporting. You especially see youngsters wearing kit which shows that a new generation is being created.

Everything that the club is doing is progressive and innovative with definitive planning and goals. Or put another way, the club is run proper like.

We play an exciting brand of football which draws the punters in, attracts good players and has the pundits singing our praises.

Good times.

Another one for the rebirth of Hibernian.

Seeing plenty guys who swore they’d never be back after 2012/relegation/“until Petrie’s gone” back at Easter Road with season tickets.

Seeing a sold out (home end anyway) Easter Road most weeks.

Having faith in the club’s structure and custodians again.

Singing Section displays are ace, and the matches to Tiny look brilliant as well.

We are an excellent example of a community club, with brilliant support for overweight fans, mental health, the Scottish Cup tie, Kicks 4 Kids, the Community Foundation etc

We have a first class women's team.

The first team is in great shape with some cracking players.

Easter Road is a terrific stadium.

Biggest crowds in the city.

21.05.16 and all that followed.

Forgive me for sounding a tad dramatic, but I honestly believe Hibernian FC has saved my life on numerous occasions, and may yet do so again.

As a manic depressive, who suffers from a severe eating disorder, these past 20 years has been an endless path of despair and pitfalls upon which I have frequently lost the will to live. On various occasions I have considered suicide, and only the love and understanding of a select few people, and my passion for all things Hibernian FC, has rescued me from that dark place.

In that time my illness has cost me friends, family, relationships, a career and more. Throughout all those times Hibernian FC has been the one constant companion which I could rely upon.

On at least two occasions genuine attempts to end my life were only just thwarted, but thankfully Hibs has given me a refuge from my daily troubles/battles, and a sense of belonging and love that I have frequently lived without.

For me, a walk to Easter Road not only feels like a journey home, but also a momentary escape from my mind and the war I wage with myself daily.

For that I shall always remain eternally grateful.

Special mention to Sir Patrick of Stanton, who thrilled me watching the Tornadoes and whom I have had the pleasure of meeting many times, sometimes by sheer chance. I was fortunate to grow up watching the Tornadoes and have never had that buzz again until recently. What a time to be a Hibbie!

Thanks mate, it is much appreciated.

I didn't wish to sound self-indulgent, but I hoped to convey that the game of football (in our case Hibs) stretches beyond the confines of Easter Road and the 90 minutes on Saturday, but deep into the very fibre of who many of us are.

At times they have been all I had to keep me going - how grateful I am that they continue to be here for me now.

Like the lad who posted above I would put Hibs into the category of being a real positive in my life. Through so many trials and tribulations they have remained the one constant, the one distraction from the crap that real life can throw at you. It may be the case that they are frequently mediocre, sometimes utterly rank, so often let you down, and sometimes dae yer heid in ….. but just every now and then they can take you to the very heights of footballing nirvana …… its that hope along with the camaraderie of trips to ER, Hampden and elsewhere with your Hibs supporting pals that makes the whole thing so addictive and often so memorable :greengrin

That and the best strip in world football :aok:

The great thing about Hibs currently is that it’s all being built in a slow stable controlled manner within our means, in an honourable fashion with no begging or scamming needed.

It feels like we’re building up to something big happening again.

I feel your struggle and have similar experiences myself. Hibs have always been a constant in my life and will continue to be so. Hibs have been there in good times and very bad times. I know what you mean about the escape.. seeing Hibs play, or score, takes me away to a different place and helps me forget about a lot of things that trouble me. The love I have for Hibs transcends everything. Hibs are not eleven football players kicking a ball around and trying to win a match. Hibs are bonding with my dad, Hibs are bonding with my son, Hibs are sharing good times and bad with my mates, Hibs are walking down Easter Road with butterflies in your belly before a match, Hibs are home, Hibs are us and you and me, Hibs are yesterday, today and tomorrow, Hibs are what's kept me going through tough times, Hibs are a release of energy, Hibs are us and we are Hibs.

I don't think that I will ever experience anything like the Cup Final. The realisation after SDG scored, after all the bedlam had calmed down, those two minutes before the game finished when we knew we had won the Cup were incredible and unlikely to be repeated.

Very touching post. Hibs are more than just a club and like you say, can be the one consistent in a lot of people's lives. Many things come and so in life but Hibs remain. Like Lawrie Reilly famously said "i was born a Hibee, and I'll die a Hibee".

Great thread

After all the travails and bickering of the transfer window its great to read what the club means to folk and some of the posts would bring tears to a glass eye or give you goose bumps.

Hibs have the ability to frequently infuriate you, but every once in a while and more often recently they do something that gives you such a lift.

An important goal, a great bit of play, a thumping tackle , hanging on for a great win, beating the gunts or the ugly sisters and occasionally winning something!

Hibs are a club to be proud of, great facilities, well and honourably run, at the forefront of Scottish Football development for decades.

I love Hibs.
