Really good piece, that. Good to get an insight into more of what's going on behind the scenes at East Mains :agree:

I have to say that I didn’t know that analysis was carried out during the game. Always thought it was before and after. A good read!

Can't help thinking we should have kept this quiet

That all sounds impressive but I don't see what good it would do to make other teams aware of our methods, we should keep all that private IMO, same with scouting methods.

I was down at East Mains a while back having a look at the video analysis set up and it's fantastic.

Some of the equipment was funded by a donation from hibs.net and that's something we should all be quite proud of imo.

Morning guys, just wanted to put a few at ease with regards to fears of giving away our secrets in the EEN article. The article is very generic in its detail with regards to the Performance Analysis provision and process at HTC. For example, if this was another SPL team I, as an opposition analyst, would not be able to glean anything from this article that would help me prepare for a game. Those that have visited HTC on the various tours George Craig has organised would have had a far greater insight into the software we use, the specifics of what we are looking for, how we prepare our players etc.

While I'm here, I would also like to echo Pretty Boy's comments - none of this would have been possible without the generous donations we have received from you (it was mentioned in my chat with David). It genuinely makes such a difference to myself & the PA department - but more importantly to Neil, the coaches and the players. You play a massive part both on, and importantly, off the park. Keep up the good work. See you all on Saturday!

The less opposition teams know about how we prepare for/analyse matches, the better.

Was good to get a look into the work you do. Some very interesting stuff and from the sounds of it the detail you guys go into when analysing things is huge. Very good decision by the club to set all this up and it sounds like you’ve done a great job so far.

What difference could it make?

Are our opponents going to do anything differently because they know we have sophisticated analysis technology?

Get some technology of their own? Head hunt some of the people we've got doing it for us?

Sounds like something special. But I'm sure I read somewhere, maybe even here, that Lennon doesn't pay too much attention to the analysis.

I also thought that it was interesting that we are helping train and educate the next generation of analysts who are finding employment with clubs down South.

All helps create a network with other clubs where the work we are doing is known about and appreciated. I can see it all helping in player identification, recruitment and development.

Good to see we are leading not following.

It's not secret and there will be loads of clubs that analyse like this.

I would also imagine that the companies who manufacture the technology will have made every club aware of what's available.

Players move on, they talk to other players, and I'm sure they'll explain more about what happens than is in that article.

As far as head hunting is concerned, we're already training people in how to use the technology, and there are people in various sports well versed in how it works.

Exactly. As the article says, video analysis is now standard in many professional sports. There are even university sports science courses where video analysis is part of the curriculum.

I'm glad to see we are taking on students in their work year from Bath University - keeps the staff on their toes and up to date with the latest developments.

A few of us (.net private members visit) were treated to a presentation from Calvin on the video analysis stuff down at East Mains last year.

It's really interesting stuff and Calvin and his team-mates gave an excellent presentation, explaining the process from start to finish.

Keep up the good work guys

This was shown on Football Focus last Saturday, how the EPL has it at all games and it tells the Manager who is putting in a shift and who is hiding!
It looks impressive if your a Geek, but if you understand it and how it works your worse than a Geek!!
If this sort of thing continues we will all be sitting in the house watching a screen, with other screens beside it telling us who is doing what and why, so would be better switching off the big screen and watching the analysis!!!!

Perhaps some people may now realise that running a football club is an expensive business and why “taking a punt on somebody for £50/100K”is not a good idea.

Good interview overall but...

“I applied and when I came up and met Alan Stubbs and Graeme Mathie (head of player identification and recruitment) I felt it was somewhere I could flourish. There was no performance analysis department"

I am 99% sure this is false. I definitely recall this department existing before 2015.

While there may have been some form of it, they now have a specific room at east mains for this and a team of folk assisting.

These also definitely existed before 2015. Unless the tour I went on in 2014 was fake news?

Why? Our opponents know we do it and do it themselves. Its not a secret. Its what professional teams do.

Leeann and George arrived in 2014 so it was probably set up then.
Before that I think we used a fat goalie coach for talent ID.

For those interested in what is happening at Brentford and Mjitteland.
Is the next step for us bringing in specialist set piece coaches?

Grandson is part of Hibs under13 squad and they get video reviewed, as will rest of Academy Teams .Think its a sound idea.!

I don't think that's the case.

I expressed concern before that football is becoming too stats based. Good managers and people who know the game will be able to tell if someone has played well or not and they won't need a spreadsheet to tell them.

What Lennon said was that he used all the stats given but he won't rely on them too heavily, he'll still trust his gut over what a computer is telling him. I was quite pleased to hear him say that tbh.

Pretty sure it was in that short video the Daily Record (boo hiss) did a while ago when we spoke about the relationship we were trying to build with some of the bigger clubs such as Juve and Man City.

Or we could really push the boat out and bring in a specialist throw in coach.[emoji3]
