Aston Villa have had their kits this year designed by fashion label Luke 1977, headed by Luke Roper who is local and also a massive Villa fan. Villa have seen their kit sales increase by 700% this season because of this! Bloody smart some of them too:

I wonder if this is something Hibs could look into beyond Macron? I immediately thought of Lyle and Scott as a Scottish brand, but sure there are others. Thoughts?

Beyond that, I’d love to see a return of Umbro - we have a lot of classic kits by them that they’d do a great job of putting a modern spin on.

Personally I’ve liked the Macron kits

Great quality and unique designs to us - the 1875 and crest imprints have been a touch

I’m not desperate to go back to a big brand, template kits and no relationship with the club, even some epl have catalogue shirts - shocking

The “Nike Deal” (through JustSport - I think) was shocking, they weren’t able to, or weren’t interested in, produce more of the 2015/16 kits after we won the cup. These home shirts now go for £150+ on eBay - I hate to think how much the club missed on

I remember folk were happy to see the back of le coq sportif but the Nike deal was a shocker. The Macron deal seems similar to the one with le coq sportif in that hibs have more say in the design. Personally Iike it.

I really couldn't care who the kit is made by. Hibs sign a deal with a manufactrer worth X amount, after that what we make per kit is minimal. There's a reason Adidas paid £800M to make Man Utd kits, there's one company making big money from sales and it isn't the football club.

I thought laat seasons Macron efforts were decent, this years are pretty crap. I'm not going to give it too much thought; it's a football strip.

We should make our own kits. Buy some templates from China for like £10 each, stitch on a badge and sell for like £40.

I'm not going to give it too much thought; it's a football strip.It all feeds into the overall image of a football club though. Most people are attracted to the ‘cool’ clubs these days like Barca etc over the Errea and Joma wearers of this world. Look at the fuss Nigeria got over there ‘cool’ Nike stuff this year, over some of the bigger, more popular nations.

Pringle have gone massively up market whilst Lyle & Scott went for the mass fashion market which for most labels has a limited shelf life.
Not sure I like the idea of a fashion brand making football kits, Villa is the only example I am aware of? But if we did Pringle would be cool (and Scottish)

I'm not checking the facts, but really? 700%?
Sounds impressive, but did Villa retain their 16/17 kit for last season? If there was no change in kit last term, I suppose it's understandable. If a kit's worn for two seasons, a breakdown of 85%+ of replica kit sales being in the first year and only around 15% in the second season sounds feasible. But we surely aren't claiming that, say, only 10% of Villa fans bought the last new home kit, while 80% have shelled-out for this one.
Clothing manufacture is a hard business to crack. I'd be disappointed if the Club was using valuable time actively looking for an arrangement with a known label. A stand alone China plan really would be asking for burnt fingers.
Surely most fans inclined towards buying replica shirts will buy almost every new home kit that comes out.
Personally, I think this season's is such a shocker that I doubt I'd buy it, even if I found the sponsor acceptable.
I've not bought a shirt since Marathon became sponsors. Nothing against them and people who've dealt with them, both on behalf of the Club and in the gambling industry generally, are impressed by them. I don't have anything against proper bookies or gambling in general either, but I do object to the "In yer face" partnership between football and these online casino firms. Marketing is aimed specifically at the ignorant and the vulnerable. I'm being serious when I say that the percentage of fans watching a game in a pub who've had a bet on it likely exceeds the percentage of punters at a racetrack who've bet on any individual given race.
The Fraser McEwan shirts were the first ones in ages that I didn't buy. Same dafty moral reason. I know the guy is a Hibby and repo man is a legitimate occupation, but I drew the line at advertising it. I've no problem with lager, blended whisky or ginger beer... Or local building or protective clothing companies😒.

I still don't understand why we don't do this.I don’t think this is ever a good idea - a lot of time and effort goes into designing and manufacturing a shirt, so splitting that time 5 ways means fans are offered the choice between 5 average options instead of one good one.

It also means a lot of fans end up unhappy if the shirt they preferred doesn’t get picked. Say the winner got 30% of the vote, that means 70% didn’t necessarily like it.

Plus, you’d be surprised how much bad taste the general public. Collectively they don’t know good design unless it’s thrust upon them. Greenock Morton did this recently and the chosen result was hideous, and some very talented designers efforts got thrown on the scrap heap.
