Please bear in mind they were only the first three preliminary rounds of a European competition. It is not up there with our achievements in the sixties and seventies where we got to the semi and quarter final stages indeed in the fifties we got to the semi finals of the first Europpean Cup. Do not get me wrong they were worth while a european adventure and new interest for the fans and certainly much better than playing meaningless friendlies and pointless league cup section games but sadly due to the time of year and the fact that the squad has not been finalised and yet to gel meant that we were once again found wanting. Ultimately the team will benefit from having these games against new opposition and can only benefit going forward into the new season.

Yeah but you only had to win about 2 ties to get to a semi in those days.

Decent run regardless if its preliminaries or not.

It's a different world these days when it comes to the huge number of teams competing in Europe. As you say, back then there were a lot less teams involved, but the stature of the opposition was more illustrious eg from the mid-50s through to the mid-70s our opponents included Barcelona, Roma, Red Star, Utrecht, Valencia, Porto, Napoli, Leeds United, Lokomotiv Leipzig, Hamburg, Liverpool, Sporting Lisbon, Hadjuk Split, and Juventus. We beat several of them and were competitive against those we didn't.

Agree opposition though was usually top drawer because less rounds. It meant for great nights against great opposition big crowds brilliant atmosphere against Leeds, Liverpool, Barcalona,Sporting, Juve, Hamburg and Napoli. Sadly cannae see us getting into the latter stages of European competition anytime soon.Just think how much money we would make nowadays. You are correct in what you say the boys did us proud each man gave 100 % and took us as far as they could you cannot ask for much more than that!

Decent record in Europe under Lennon. A win and a loss against Brondby also. Probably beats any club outside Celtic tbh.

It's our best run in europe for a very long time. Hopefully we can better it next year

We’ve had some decent results and performances under him.

On both occasions we’ve been knocked out, you could argue we were under prepared going in to the games and that could have been the difference.

Brondby we had the goalkeeping situation. Then this year we haven’t adequately replaced what was the best midfield three in the league.

3 wins but two were against oil rig workers etc and the other against a decent Greek side who were at a similarly early stage of their season and who had changed their entire team over the summer. We did reasonably well in the European run imo. In the mean time we have dropped a couple of league points already against a poor St J team and have an important game on Sunday. Fast and furious at this stage of teh season and we could really do with a win against the Staggies to keep morale up and give us more big games on the horizon. Most importantly we need to get some balance to the squad and greatly improve our presence in the middle of the park.
