He’s great. Reads the game well and is strong for his age. Great defender.

The only thing that he needs to work on which will come with experience is his distribution. Tends to belt it up the park at times when he could easily have found a man.

To be fair I would rather he did that if he isn’t comfortable trying to pick the pass but something to work on.

He made a couple of errors with diving in but I had him as my MOTM by a margin. Centre halves tend to improve greatly with experience and as they get more strength and Ryan is one of the best I have seen at his age. Will be a huge player for us in the years to come.

The number 27 he was up against was a good player so very impressive that Porteuos kept him quiet all game.

Not a perfect performance but a good one by a very talented 19 year old. He needs these games and the coaching that will come out of them to improve.

One question, was it a shot in the second half or s sclaffed pass to DG.

Efe doesn't get nervous. Ever. Which is maybe one of his flaws actually. However, he was outstanding tonight.

Ryan Porteous, for me, can now be considered a first team player who lacks only experience and games.
He could quite readily step in and go on a run of games, and in so doing keep out any of our current first choice defenders.
Ryan's breakthrough is a bonus for Neil Lennon - as it will be one less signing he doesn't have to make.

How well does he come across as well eh? That post match interview is different class. Great defender and just seems like a great laddie. Chuffed we have him tied down long term.

couple of mistakes and poor passes but he was up against a right handful, myself and those around me were quite surprised Molde subbed the guy as he was causing a few problems, maybe they thought Ryan had the better of him, well done Ryan Porteous

Ryan caught him with that last ditch tackle, he went down injured after that, I think anyway.

With Darren McGregor probably approaching the end of his fine career it's good to have his successor in place without a transfer fee being needed.

Agree 100% I am Ryan’s biggest fan but have noticed that creeping in recently when under pressure needs to remove that from his game needs to show more composure perhaps could learn from Hanlon but is still young plenty of scope for improvement. The futures bright the futures green and white!

Interesting comments after the game from him.

Sounds like Efe doesn’t speak to him too much during a game and Hanlon does but not massively.

Sounds like Daz is an idol of his and the one that willl talk him properly through games.

He played centre of a back 3 tonight with 2 defenders that like vacating their position to go join in on the attack. I’m more than happy if he wants to hold his position and punt it when he feels it needs to.

As long as he plays his own game, and doesn’t try change to suit Efe and Hanlon he will be a player.

Thought he was very poor first half. Stiffened up in second half but not a football player. Needs to learn how to play offside. He was a yard deeper than every defender but that comes with experience.

I wasd told Hibs have offered him another year on his contract think he signed a 4 year deal but something to do with only taking him upto u23 years of age where development fee is payable or something. Anyway not sure of the logic but he’s not for signing anything else just now he’s happy with what he’s got despite seemingly offering to double his wages.

Glad the club recognise how good this lad could be and are trying to secure him even longer.

He improves with nearly every game, however he’s still prone to the odd mistake and his distribution can be poor. But he’s certainly got a very good chance of becoming a regular first player but he’s not quite there yet.

10-08-2018, 07:24 AM
Their striker was a handful and he got the better of Ryan once or twice, but other than that he had a good game. Certainly doesn't play like he's still a teenager.

I'd have McGregor ahead of him, but not by a huge amount.

Think he will play more than McGregor this year and may overtake him soon as a starter in our strongest 11.

It took him a while to adjust to playing against their striker who was very physical but Ryan is a big strong laddie and showed again like he did against Motherwell that he's totally ready to play regular football for Hibs, he was a clear MOM for me last night and a future star for us.
