We have received an approach from an ATOL registered Travel Company enquiring if there would be any interest from our Members for a flight to Molde. At this stage of course this is nothing other than an enquiry and we thought it would be helpful to at least pass this enquiry on. If it is possible, we understand it would be a day trip only. We also understand that pricing would be in the region of £550- £600.

If you believe this is something that you would take up please email asap to:

info@hiberniansupporters.co.uk

You will appreciate that we are simply trying to offer some assistance here so please only respond if your interest is very serious. We will not respond directly to individual emails at this stage as we are just establishing the level on interest, if any.

I registered my interest in response to the first mail and got another last night saying that it seemed there was enough interest so the tour operator would go ahead with trying to source an aircraft. They said they hoped to have that sorted today and would open up for bookings for a short window of a few hours. I haven't heard anything today which makes me wonder if they're struggling to source a plane - has anyone else heard anything?

I have received an email from HSL today confirming return flight and coach transfer to stadium and return at £579 per head. Flying out Edinburgh to Molde approx 9.00am on 16th and returning 1.15am on 17th.

No mention of match ticket. HSL have provided a link to tour operator and are recommending booking by 9.30pm tonight for HSL members after which they will open to non members. What does everyone think?

The operators website says "Price does not include match tickets. Please note we do not supply match tickets. Tickets can be purchased through Hibernian F.C." but tickets are already for sale at circa £14 on the Molde website so I would expect the price to be the same when they are made available through Hibs.

I did a bit of research on the operator and they seemingly do a lot of trips for Everton (with the feedback seeming fine) and they came up on an ATOL search too. I can also see the owner has posted on an Arsenal forum (as stillgoingstrong (http://www.onlinegooner.com/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=4704&sid=f3a6dd7975a04c08df9304fde5f76217)) and seems (erm) very passionate about the service he provides but I think I'm sold! - http://www.onlinegooner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25020

I flew to Napoli with Man city on a day trip run by Thomas Cook Sports and that was a Champions League match last year, flights, transfers to/from airport/pub/ground etc all in for £279, I think the fans are being robbed here with this one.

Flight departed MAN at 7am and flew back from NAP at 01:00.

The game was November 1st not peak summer. Very different supply and demand for planes. The City v Napoli game also had a longer lead time and did not have to be arranged in a couple of days.

Not at all cheeky imo. HSL were far too passive in the first 3 years since their launch. That was the consistent criticism. Their members wanted more from them and they’re responding to that.

Exactly, a lot of time and effort will have gone into making this charter possible in a very short space of time by what are essentially volunteers. The least non-members can do is make a small contribution to the organisation these volunteers are working for.

I know a number of non members heading out on this flight. I also know the time and effort these guys put in especially in helping a number of fund raising nights just after Tom Farmer took over and they have stood by the club for years.
I would hope the donation on the plane would be voluntary and we have a plane full of fellow Hibs fans and not members and non members.

I also found out that HIBS also stand for Home Interior Bloggers so i expect a critique of the plane interior on their return

Just a quick note I was speaking to an aircraft broker and he could get a 737-300 seats about 148 people and would be in the region of €650 per person for a day trip.

It is such a busy time of year next to no aircraft available at short notice and also various other elements to consider.

So the offer from HSL is good offer.

Please note that Sport Options will be providing final details to all supporters who have booked to travel on this flight on Monday.
A couple of points are worth noting :
1. There has been a slight change to the anticipated departure time and the actual time now allocated by Edinburgh Airport is 8.30am on Thursday, and not 9.10 as originally anticipated.
2. As this is a one off charter flight there will not be any facility to check in online. The old method will prevail and you will be directed to a check in desk to be issued with Boarding Cards for the whole trip.

Finally can we take the opportunity to invite all non HSL members to donate now £25 as previously suggested. A non Member is someone who has either not contributed the total sum required or did not have a Direct Debit in place to make regular monthly contributions at 2nd August 2018.

It makes me slightly uneasy why non HSL members are being “asked” to donate £25 to HSL? I’m an HSL member myself but if the flight was opened to non HSL members why the pressure to make a donation to HSL?

HSL is a membership organisation run by volunteers who give up a vast amount of time to it’s administration. Without those said volunteers giving up their time this charter flight would never have happened. The least non-members can do is make a small (relative) donation to the organisation which these volunteers work for.

I disagree. If it wasn’t for non HSL members joining the flight it might not have happened? The flight isnt cheap and the suggestion seems to be non HSL members have to pay £25 more. it makes me reconsider what I pay to HSL if this sort of moral pressure is being applied.

You’re right, without non-members it might not have happened, however without the HSL volunteers it definitely wouldn’t have happened.

To be honest what you say makes me feel uneasy travelling on this flight now. I didn’t join HSL for any privileges but it seems like there are two classes of citizens on the flight with HSL members happy to enforce an additional charge on non HSL members because HSL members are "already contributing to the club". Initially the flight cost should have been higher to non HSL members (which I still think is wrong!) rather than this make a donation pressure on non HSL members.

i know a number of non HSL members who are on this flight and who have stood up and raised a lot of money over the years to help the club we all love

Nobody is making anybody pay any extra. It’s a perfectly reasonable and polite request for a donation. What is the problem with that? HSL would be failing in their duty to raise extra funds if they didn’t ask. There is no two tier system, everybody who has booked is on the flight regardless if they CHOOSE to make a donation or not.

I am only expressing my honest opinion. I feel unhappy/uneasy because HSL have posted on here that non HSL members will be asked to donate £25 to HSL.

On your second point it was yourself that stated

"Additionally, non-members aren’t paying £25 more, HSL members have already paid that £25 to HSL and in most cases a lot lot more.” That to me is justifying the £25 “donation” request as HSL members already pay more than £25 to the club?

I am not going to post anymore on this matter. Hopefully I have made my position clear.

Are you bothered that non season ticket holders pay more per game than ST holders? Or that you get a 10% discount on pints if you pay with your membership card at the supporters club? Calm doon, nobody is even forcing anyone to pay the £25 but it's not exactly unreasonable for HSL to suggest a wee donation as a kind of 'facilitation fee'

People that have paid into hsl have benefitted by them arranging this charter, sure it takes a fair bit of work to arrange this. There will be people who haven't paid/donated anything to hsl that will be going on this flight as well. The request for a donation from those that haven't previously donated etc isn't unreasonable, if they chose to pay it or not is entirely their choice but I know if it was myself I would.

HibbyDave

I understood that Sport Options approached HSL to offer the charter facility IF there was enough demand for it. HSL then promoted the flight via social media to ALL fans of the club. What extra work did HSL do? HSL made it very clear in their promotion that they were not the organiser and that they were in no way responsible for any aspect of the trip.

All payments come out of your bank. :-)

Standing orders/faster payments usually go out 2 hours.

Card payments are pending for a few days normally.

I prefer to send payments via online banking or standing orders as they debit straight away but either way it doesn't really matter.

Yes I’m aware that I can cancel a direct debit after I’ve set it up😀. The point is that with a standing order it would not need to be cancelled as payments can only be made as and when the account owner authorised a payment. Unless cancelled, a direct debit remains active and the receiving account holder has the right to collect payments.
I was asked what is the difference between a standing order and a direct debit.
It just surprised me that I can’t make a payment to HSL by any other means than direct debit for this voluntary £25

Please note there is no intention whatsoever to apply any kind of pressure. Donations from non members are voluntary, in exactly the same way as donations from Members. As we have always said from the start we only want supporters to make donations if they are in a financial position to do so and just as important if they want to make the said donation.

We have a fine balancing act. You may recall in an earlier round we held some raffles and we received some feedback from some Members who thought they should be in the draw without making any additional donation as they had already made a donation that month. Our problem was if we had not requested such a donation we would not have been able to raise any additional funds which of course was the object of the initiative. With this in mind we have tried to keep everyone happy by having a slight differential. While we realise we will never be able to keep everyone happy what we do not want to ever lose sight of is the underlying principle that is involved here, a goodwill donation, given voluntarily by our supporters.

Yes there is an option to pay by card if you are unhappy about a one off direct debit. If you go to the bottom of the "donate" page on our website you will see a box that suggests that international donators, and those who do not wish to use the Go Cardless system, should click to proceed. If you further navigate to the single donation section you will find an option to select a specified amount. There will be 160 on the HSL flight. We are due to leave Edinburgh at 8.30 am on Thursday morning and anticipate landing in Molde at 11.15 local time. Buses have been arranged to take supporters directly to Sportspuben 1911 in the centre of town.

While the pub itself will not be open at that time we have made arrangements with the venue ( the pub is part of a hotel ) for an area exclusively for all Hibs supporters. They have an area which was their former Resturant upstairs which will be open for us from 12 Noon. They have agreed to sell local Norwegian lager for 69Kr / 0.5l. We understand this is normally over 80kr for the same quantity elsewhere. The Management have confirmed they understand the "Scottish fans are great company" and they are looking forward to seeing us. They have asked us to express one thing to all supporters. Drinking outside is strictly prohibited and will result in the Hotel getting into difficulty with local authorities. We trust everyone will respect this. They also tell us that they will try to put on some food at competitive prices.

Hope this helps.

Is that not £8.50? Also we're 68ml short of a pint.

To think people say Edinburgh is a rip off. :greengrin

Maybe I’ve missed something...but HSL stated a price per half litre.

Given one litre is just over 2 pints, I’m struggling a bit to work out how half a litre is 68 ml SHORT of a pint?

I’ll echo that. Many thanks to all the organisers. Logistics all worked perfectly. To get 160 slightly inebriated fans back on time after a long day was a minor miracle.

I can assure you I was NOT slightly inebriated.

Totally agree. Brilliant day, match result excluded, and a nice touch to hand out the free scarf too. Thanks to all involved in pulling this together. Hibs class.

Overall a great day out. A couple of minor things though...
I thought the free scarf available ONLY to HSL members was a bit off ( especially as non members were encouraged to make a £25 donation.
Randomly someone ( presumably from HSL) handed out boarding passes for the return flight in the pub but not to everyone! Airports have handled millions of passengers for decades using the tried and tested system of a check-in desk. I’m sure it was well intentioned but it could have caused some issues at the airport if security were not so relaxed about it.

Well done to HSL and Sport Options for organising the trip. It pretty much ran like clockwork and the arrangements in Molde were excellent. The plane came from Bulgaria and the interior design - carpets, table and seat belt were all green !

The vast majority of fans were well behaved and the locals seemed amused. Unfortunately, a few had far too much to drink and made fools of themselves creating a bad impression of our Club and country. Most of the contact with Molde fans though was good nature with a lot of good banter.

Slightly being an understatement in my case, apologies for any gash patter

There's a few different threads touching on similar topics, but I'll pick this one to say thanks to HSL for the part they played in making yesterday's trip so easy and enjoyable.

Despite the result it was such a good day that most will still be glad they went, and I'm sure a fair number wouldn't have been able to do so without this charter going ahead

The general reaction and mood of the locals, tourists and Molde supporters is surely the best way to gauge how well the travelling fans represented the club -- and even if they didn't speak better English than most of us, their handshakes and smiles would tell the story :agree:

Do you guys not get an alert to say you have a PM?
Looks like the admin pricks (I think that's allowed although I swear I was banned for less) are just not up to it.
