Can any of the historians confirm or deny that there was once a Hibs player called Robert Bishop? It's actually pretty remarkable but the guy who has just bought the house next door to me has a business called Gorgie Road Properties and he says that he thinks that his grandfather played for Hibs (and possibly Preston as well). His business card actually has a photo of a Gorgie Road street sign that looks like it was taken in the Gorgie area.......

The "Hibernian History Handbook" lists:
Bishop, ?, 1917-18 *
where the * indicates they played less than 5 games for the club. This could be the guy.

Certainly not post-war for either Hibs or PNE.

A Charlie Bishop played for Preston in the 1990s but that's it!

There’s a Bishop, ? (No first name given) listed on the site http://www.fitbastats.com in 1917/1918. Played 2 games, no goals.

I would reccomend directing this query to the Hibernian Historical Trust. Contact details are on their website, I know from experience they try their very best to answer and help with questions such as this.
Hope this helps.

I think he’s possibly the same player who played for portsmouth.

My new neighbour is pretty sure he grew up in the Gorgie area but can't swear to it as his dad brought him to Texas as a young child.

You were quite correct, I had mistakenly thought it was Preston but it was Portsmouth. He believes his grandfather was born in 1894 which would have had playing him for us at around age 23 or so. Just amazing actually, all this way from home and I end up with a neighbour whose Grandad was a Hibee......

On the subject of ex players, does Any one remember a player called George Burnie? Tells me he played with George Best. I asked a couple of my mates dad’s but they can remember him!

I did find out more, he played three times for Hibs making his debut in a Wilson cup tie against the Jambos on New Years Day of 1918. Two draws and a 3-1 win against Hearts - undefeated then..... :hibees
