Disgraced Sepp Blatter, despite a six year suspension for corruption, will attend today’s Portugal - Iran game as a guest of Putin and then move elsewhere to take in another match later in the week. Blatter apparently was instrumental in Russia being awarded the World Cup when he was in charge. Another two fingers to everybody from Putin - ‘It’s ma ba’ and I’ll dae what I want.

If the 22 members of the FIFA executive committee who took part in the secret vote to award the World Cup to Russia and Qatar 16 have since been banned from football for corruption, charged or still under investigation.

Everyone was at it back when these tournaments were awarded. If you recall the undercover stings channel 4 did on the England bid. Sure they were even buying handbags for the wives of the committee members.
It's just that Russia and Qatar were clearly a bit better at "looking after the voters" than the rest.
Not as bad as Trump threatening countries that didn't vote for the American bid last week!

So why isn’t Qatar beng stripped of the World Cup?

Moving it to December 2022 should have made the bid technically incompliant.

That suspension means Blatter is banned from ‘all football related activity’.

Shameless.

It doesn't say anything about cashing in on his corruption with his 'customers', though.

I think it says more about Putin than septic Blatter, to be honest.

Anyone spotted the Lithuanian submariner at any of the games yet?

He must get the odd night off from driving his taxi.

Fifa gives former president Sepp Blatter additional ban of six years eight months - BBC Sport (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56508619)

Fifa has banned ex-president Sepp Blatter from football until 2028 after giving him a new suspension of six years and eight months.
Former Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke has received a similar ban, with both also being fined £780,000.

The punishments were for "various violations" of Fifa's code of ethics.
The new bans start when the current suspensions of 85-year-old Blatter and Valcke, 60, end in October 2021 and October 2025 respectively.
A Fifa statement said: "The investigations into Messrs Blatter and Valcke covered various charges, in particular concerning bonus payments in relation to Fifa competitions that were paid to top Fifa management officials, various amendments and extensions of employment contracts, as well as reimbursement by Fifa of private legal costs in the case of Mr Valcke."
In its findings, world football's investigatory chamber found Blatter accepted "an undue economic benefit" of 23m Swiss Francs (£18m) "split over the years 2010 to 2014, as a result of the conflict of interest created by the allocation and execution of extraordinary bonus payments between limited top-ranking Fifa officials".

why is this old goat not up in court

The World Cup in Russia was a fantastic success and Russia was due a turn at hosting it so I don't see the problem.

Yeah the Ruskies hosted a pretty good tournament but that doesn't excuse the shenanigans that FIFA got up to in those days (and probably still are.....still not enough transparency in how they are run). They have to ban all "hospitality" offered from the applicants to the judging panel for starters, no gifts, holidays, parties, brown envelopes etc. They won't ever be able to please everybody but their decisions should be open and accessible to scrutiny.

Also IMO any bans for corruption should be sin die.

Don’t. See. The. Problem.

Can I come for a holiday in your land of unicorns and rainbows please? Sounds like you don’t have a care in the world (and clearly don’t follow the news).

Probably not all that unreasonable a comment in March 2021 though, no?
