Tv licence payers throughout the UK are being absolutely cheated paying for this guy to paid handsomely for the privilege of commentating on major football tournaments. I don’t know anyone that likes him so the question is why do the BBC continue to employ him to do just that?

You’d think he had the worst job in the world as opposed to one of the best. The moaning and sarcasm are ridiculous and some of his comments on foreign players are borderline xenophobic.

Paid a decent wage to travel the world to watch and talk about football and both their faces are always tripping them. It's either a monotone drone with Murphy or whining and moaning from Lawrenson. At least try to feign some enthusiasm.

Hates life generally, from what I can make out. Only time I've seen him animated was when he did a piece on the Spion Kop, which I think was actually about a massive defeat for the British in the Boer War.

Totally agree - having said that, Lawrenson is also responsible for one of my favourite World Cup commentaries !. The 2010 game when England played Germany, Lawrenson epitomised the English commentators arrogance pre-match - but when Miroslav Klose scored Germany's 1st goal, Lawrenson's 'Sunday pub-team' sour-grapes line was the start of 90 minutes of pain for him but absolute joy & delight for me !!
