Highly articulate rap dude Akela is highlighting that the murder rate in Scotland is higher than London but the tabloids (and Trump) are getting all aerated only about London stabbings. He says Wales is higher too but can't find the stats on that.


Anyone would think that the tabloids have their own authoritarian social agenda to push!!

I'm not sure I believe the original claim - does said rapper have anything to back it up?

And even if he does, what is his point? That there is no problem with violence among young black men? I think statistics show that there is a problem.

Never heard of the guy - but, by reading the OP, I think the point is that knife crime is higher in parts of Scotland than it is in the (very highlighted) areas of London?

Not sure what you can't understand in that post - OR why you feel the need to introduce a racial element into the Post's first reply?

Several things going on here.

Firstly, Scotland and in particular in the West, has made serious progress in reducing knife crime through multi-agency approaches, treating it as more of a public health problem than merely criminality.

My understanding of the stats is that Scotland is doing better than England and Wales pro rata on knife crimes, don't know about murders by stabbing.

There is a further question about the degree to which knife crime and murders by stabbing disproportionately affect black males and what causes there may be for that.

Maybe it's an age thing, but the name Akela conjures up images of grown men in shorts and woggles telling me to Dyb Dyb Dyb.

Knife culture has always been a problem in central Scotland, especially Glasgow. Being 'chibbed' is part of folklore, sadly.

I googled the murder numbers 64 in scotland just over 100 in London. He usually has his facts right. He’s a clever bloke and has a Scottish mum so seems to be clued up on matters Scottish.
