The population is so docile.
We're here on holiday in Shanghai visiting our oldest son who's been out here since September.
The city itself is bustling to say the least, but the one thing that stands out like a sore thumb is that the population are so conforming, lacking emotion.

Never seen any hint of trouble, flip side and no hint of high jinx.
I've never felt safer in any city but it's a wee bit disconcerting as I feel that sometimes I'm in an episode of Humans.

Hopefully I won't be spirited away and be able to reply.

You could try shaking it up a bit, but I suspect you'd be in prison facing some sort of torture sooner than you could say "human rights violation".

I’m tempted by Beijing now that the direct flight starts to/from Edinburgh tomorrow. Flights are around £250 each way. No doubt my wife will think it is a crap suggestion like everywhere else I suggest.

Well you're fortunate. It'll be cheaper if you go yourself:)

I'd go for it. Amazing city, as well as eye-opening. Also extremely cheap once you're across there.

At least it was 12 years ago :greengrin

It's definitely a holiday like no other we've ever had, I'd highly recommend it.

I've never been to China, although visited several Asian countries. The thing is that I really like spending time in cultures, that make me feel comfortable and welcome. I've never thought that about China and it looks like I was right. I think people in China don't have too much to say for themselves, they learn what the state wants them to know and... that's it. No opinions. No judging.
