He was a bit of a thug as a player but seems like a genuinely nice bloke. Heard him on Sportsound a few months ago and some of his stories from the Fergie days were hilarious. Hope he recovers.

Seemingly had a fall on the way to a party on Saturday night, fell and banged his head
Hope he pulls through

Met Neale a good few times on nights out up here. Top man and a genuine soft spot for Hibs. Really hope he pulls through.

Neale Cooper was an excellent footballer - I think his ‘wild’ look may have made people think he was just a grafter or hard player. Definite memories of a talented player.

Very sad news indeed.

You’re maybe thinking of Neil Orr?

We had a Neil Cooper in the late 80’s/early 90’s

Think he also played for Aberdeen at the start of his career

it was Graham Mitchell that signed with those 2.

Sad news about Neale Cooper. Played his part in the tremendous achievements of that Aberdeen side and way too young to be taken.

This is a real shocker. Met him a few times and had a couple of nights out in his company. Genuinely good guy who is worshiped up here. Loved a night out and always had time for everyone. I first met him in Dunfermline and he spoke very fondly of Hibs. I actually thought he was a bit of a closet fan. Next met him a few years later back up in Aberdeen. Not only did he remember my name but immediately went on to talk Hibs. Just shows you, you can be taken at any time without warning. Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Nice post. I read an article years ago that suggested he supported Hibs as a kid. Memory might be playing tricks but im sure his dad was a Hibs fan.

RIP. Neale. I always confused Neale Cooper with Neil Simpson who crocked Ian Durant. Neale was a superior player to Neil. Very sad news.

A thug as a player. I'll forever recall Ian Monroe <sp> breaking his foot in our 3-0 loss to Aberdeen in a SC Semi at Dens. If ever a player warranted an injury, then it was him on that day.

That aside, RIP. Times have changed and those sort of players aren't in the game today.

One of the Gothenburg heroes. Will never forget the build up or the game as long as I live. Bit young tae die.

Scored the ultimate "GIRFUY" cup final goal when smashed it into an open goal to make it 4-1 in extra time vs Rangers. That moment was only bettered when Mr Ferguson berated his team for being taken to extra time against that lot.

I met him in February this year. He was in corporate hospitality at Easter Road the day we thumped the sheep 2v0. He came across as a really decent bloke. I was saddened to hear he'd passed away.

Never liked him as a player, but he was an integral pert of a hugely successful Aberdeen team and all successful teams need guys like him. RIP to an Aberdeen legend.

Neale had a heart scare a few months back, which resulted in him being rushed to hospital.
i got to know him quite well when he was with Ross County and we kept in touch over the years. He put a lot into helping at the soccer 7’s etc, and knew all the kids that went to County training by their first names.
A genuinely nice big guy, not saying he was perfect, nobody is, but very loyal to his friends and great company.
i will miss him.

Sad news. He was sitting at our hospitality table for the Aberdeen game in February. Cracking guy, had us in stitches at a few of his stories from his playing days. Good banter and took a good ripping from the Hibees at the table too - all in good spirits. Did also mention that he was a Hibee in his youth before he started playing.

Said he had some health problems recently with his heart so would be surprised if this wasn't related to that.

Very sad - know very little about Neale due to my age but had the pleasure of working with his ex wife a few years ago who told me all about him and their son who was with the Liverpool youth set up at the time. RIP
