Best pub\restaurant to eat haggis.

I've got some German friends coming over to Edinburgh for the marathon next week and one of them wants to try haggis. They're staying at Seaton Sands and I was wondering if anyone knows a decent place to eat haggis?

I doubt you'll get a decent main course haggis, or indeed your guest would thank you!

So we need to look for places that include haggis as a starter with neeps and tatties obviously! And then go for a classic fish and chips.

Guild of Forresters at the far end of Porty from Seaton Sands will be very difficult to beat. Prices are reasonable. Booking at the weekend is necessary and even at other times is advisable.

After your meal if the weather is even reasonable go through the back to beach huts for a few drinks then leave and walk along the Prom ... and if you go far enough another couple of drinks in the very friendly Rockville.

Your German friends will be over awed. My Ozzy pals were last week!

Anywhere that serves Hornigs haggis. Made in W Lothian it is the best haggis easily beating the World Famous MacSweens by a country mile.

I no longer know which restaurant serves it but I buy mine from Aytouns butcher in Dalkeith.

The Doric does haggis as a starter and main. It's as central as central comes and generally good IMO.

As soon as I posted, it was doing my head in that somewhere else served Hornig's.

Memory eventually kicked in and it's the Sun Inn at Newtongrange.

It's very good value for lunch, or early dinner and the menu justifies an evening trip.

Surely some of the Scottish restaurants in town would be the best place for haggis? Angels with bagpipes always seems popular along with Dubh Prais. The Doric as previously mentioned seems to be a popular choice.

Save yourself a fortune... Aldi's haggis is superb. Chuck together some of this and you'll impress the hell out of them :aok:

The variation in quality of Haggis is vast, some of the stuff I have tried has been utter ******. Agree tbat Hornigs is pretty decent, I prefer it as a starter as opposed to a main meal. McSweens vastly over rated in my opinion.

He's only due back in Berlin tomorrow but he sent me a photo of his haggis, neeps and tatties from the Doric. He loved it.
