No, I was 100% saying what I think. It is a beamer for him after he gave media interviews about going down south.

My comment about taking it too seriously was referring to you getting a bit touchy about me having a mild dig at someone on trial at Hearts.

He was never actually committed to that but his agent persauded him he could get him a gig down south. Looks like he may need a new agent....

I can't believe how easily people can forget how good he can actually be when he's on his game though.

Am just saying what their concern is Have said to them get service to him and he will score if fit and motivated
But you can understand their concern if he repeats what he has done with us and the Greek Club

9 games on loan at Bolton at the bottom of the Championship in half a season. He might be alright, but I’m not worried.

That's the one. Burnley fans don't seem to rate him from his loan spell there:

Flanagan was awful. Accy was the worse performance I have ever seen from a player for us. Even worse when you consider where we got him from and who we were playing against. And its no surprise given what he was up to the weekend before and probably every weekend in Burnley he was here. 'Do you know who I am?' - No, nobody did!

Jack Ross isn't going to last long based on the players he's looking at. Ozturk, Lyle Taylor and Chris Maguire all mentioned in that article. Just seems to be picking anyone that's had a season or two up in Scotland.

That kind of signing policy never works well. Dylan should have a good long think about this move IMO. Yes he'll make more money but it's a lower standard of football and he'll be playing under a young, inexperienced manager, in a 46 game a year season with big expectations from the fans about getting promotion.

He's a much, much better than that and I wonder what McLeish will make off him playing that level of football.

Yep according to that article their signing targets are Dylan McGeough, Ozturk, Lyle Taylor & Chris McGuire. It seems that Jack Ross doesnt have an original thought in his head and a very limited scouting network. A bad move for DM if he goes there and Ross will be under enormous pressure, if all he’s doing is filling the team with players he’s seen in Scotland they had better get off to a good start!

Edit. Just seen above post!

Mentioning Lyle Taylor I remember we were very interested in him under Stubbsy when he was at Falkirk but lost out when he moved to Sheffield United. Just had a look at his career on wiki and it seems to have gone downhill he went from Sheffield to S****horpe to Wimbledon with a couple of loans to a Partick Thistle in between. Id be concerned by going to sunderland. for years now, good players have went there and
became average at best, there has to be something fundamentally wrong with the
running of the club, to get 2 relegations also,

Maybe the fact they are in league one, will make dylan think he has a season to bed in at
a lower level so it will be less pressure, I wish him all the best whatever his choice,

surely it must free up money in the budget,? regardless of when agreed, now he is not signing, we will have the amount we offered him now available, and as it was a good contract that will be 6 figures a year for another player,

mallan could be a good shout, that we have waited on dylans decision before moving

If those wages are right it's a shocking move for him. Can't be an enormous amount more than he we could offer him. I'd get him going to an English Championship team for £10k+ per week but even with my green tinted specs off this seems like a poor choice. I think he'll be back up here in a year or so on loan once Ross gets the sack and/or he struggles with 46 league games plus cup for them.

Get 3k or 5k a week is a large difference and I assume a superior signing on fee. Football is a short game and money talks, if it fails
For him there he can come back to Scotland and get the same deal in a couple of years.

surely it must free up money in the budget,? regardless of when agreed, now he is not signing, we will have the amount we offered him now available, and as it was a good contract that will be 6 figures a year for another player,

mallan could be a good shout, that we have waited on dylans decision before moving

It will free up some budget but not for Mallan. The Cat said he'd agreed terms ages ago so we don't need extra money to get Mallan. Q

I wonder how the new English transfer window dates will effect Scottish clubs. We effectively have a month after theirs closes. You would think it would be to our advantage being able to sign players from there who are out of contract. Or it might be a hindrance to us with them getting deals done early and outbidding us.

Let's say nobody at all bids for SJM could that not actually become an issue as the next window he can pre contract and we get nothing.

I would bring him in and say tear up deal you are on, offer him the totally best deal we can for 2 years with it loaded in his favour with releases. As any club bidding now know if they are only club us rejecting an offer we then run the risk of losing him for free. Any extra we offer him we will recover to an extent in a better fee.

If no offer he knows he will be here for another season on same money surely upping his money for 1 extra year is worth a punt.

I wouldn't be surprised if that scenario hasn't already taken place, we value McGinn very highly but we also realise how important he is to Hibs and another season would be good for both parties, this is all of course dependant on what McGinn sees as his future.

Looks like Its not just hibs that are getting ****ed off with Jack Ross

Tommy Wright has hit out at Sunderland boss Jack Ross for making an illegal approach for his goalkeeping coach Paul Mathers behind the St Johnstone manager’s back.

“Jack Ross is a new manager in the game and maybe the new breed do things differently.
“The fact that he hasn’t phoned me or answered my calls tells you more about him.
“It’s underhand and disrespectful – to me and to the club.
“It’s out of order.”

Looking back to my post I suppose it could be argued I hedged my bets, that wasn't my intention.

I didn't think we would sign anybody this week and it would be unusual for Hibs to announce a signing at the weekend.

I recall James McPake being announced on a Saturday but that was an exception.

Guess then I'm saying Monday at the earliest but it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't sign anyone for several days yet.

Hope I'm wrong as there's nothing more encouraging than new signings being announced.

When you look at other players and valuations in Europe, that's an absolute bargain in my opinion - brilliant player who has the class and mentality to succeed. Good to see Scottish players getting a true value - sets a good benchmark for others (valuation-wise), for example like our own SJM. Plus he's an intelligent lad who has worked hard for any moves he's got - good pro for young players to aspire to be.

Unfortunately being realistic they’re not a direct rival. If we’re getting most money from Celtic, that’d then be reinvested in the team, why would we not sell to them?

You’ve got to take into account bigger clubs selling the same player would get more money, it’s a bit **** in this instance but we benefit from that too in that we’d get more for him than the likes of St Mirren would, you’ve also got to take into account he’s played in the champions league and won titles.

As I said though, Armstrong is now the marker and we work back from there when negotiating his value.

If McGinn going for a decent fee to Celtic is the trigger for getting two or three decent signings over the line I'll take that to be honest. He'll obviously be a big loss but we all know he's not going to be here long term anyway and we'll have a better chance in Europe if we can get the bulk of our signings sorted in the next two weeks.

This is the annoying thing about Scottish football. Is Armstrong a far superior footballer than he was at Dundee Utd? Maybe slightly but not enough to justify £7 million compared to his transfer fee from Dundee Utd.

SJM is a similar level with similar caps. Anything less than £4 million is a travesty.

Bigger teams attract bigger fees, that’s just the way of the footballing world.

We’ve benefited from that in the past as well.

Depends who we get in return and how else the rest of the money can be spent - I'm cynical and also think it's one of the reasons Stubbs went to St Mirren (in that he knows he's due some cash from us for his budget)

Stubbs has already spent money on a player They paid the highest transfer fee for 25 years according to one Report so I thin you can take it as read that Stubbs will be banking on McGinn being sold this window

How tested was he? I do not think Celtic would have got too much for players based on games in Europe. He played well against the same teams SJM did.

Talk of 5 million is fantasy stuff given his current contract position to be honest. He's probably worth that on a longer term contract but this summer he's only worth to us what someone is willing to pay for him. Anything north of 3 million would be good business in reality, and I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with a good bit less than that.

Ultimately, at what price is it worth it for Hibs to sell him now given that in 6 months he can sign a pre contract and leave next May for £0? I'd say a lot less than £5m.

Given the short term nature of managers careers a year is a long time.

If a manager wants to buy him now, what good is it waiting a year when firstly, be probably won’t be available then.....secondly, the manager will be sacked by then if he doesn’t have a good season this year......and thirdly, for what is a relatively small amount of money.

Particularly down south, if a manager wants him now why would he scrimp and save over a couple of million when there’s bound to be other interested parties?

Us, the huns and Hull after Barker.

Probably put him in the unlikely to come back category.

Frustrating thing is if he joins Hull he’ll probably be a £30m player in a year or two as genuine wingers that can go past players are a dying breed now.

No amount of money should want us to sell him to Celtic

This is not unlikely the situation with the rangers / hearts game after the split.
Nobody *wanted* hearts to win.....they wanted the result that was best for Hibs.

All other things being equal I'd prefer he went elsewhere - not least because I can look out for a player I like in the hope he's doing well.
But if he goes to celtic and Hibs benefit like they did with Allan going there then I'll be fine with it.

So give McGinn a new 2 year deal with a £250k signing bonus and £4K a week(most probably our top wage). He gets a hefty bonus and we get a stronger asset to sell. We also give him a release clause of £4 million. Bonus is we keep him for the qualifying stages of the Europe League.

Even a £500k bonus works well for all parties. Dempster has an easy job with these players 😂😂

To be honest id just let him run his contract down,he is happy at hibs and happy to be here for another year,so id resist selling unless its crazy sums.best all round midfielder ive seen for a long time at easter road.a question though as a supporter would you rather watch him in hibs top for another good season,or take say 1.5mill for him and spend nxt season saying ewish mcginn was still in this side?

Out of the 3 I reckon it'd be us or Hull. He'll be going out on loan again with the likelihood that Man City will no doubt be covering his entire wage. He knows Easter Road and has done well here already. Another year in the same environment can only be seen as a good thing for his progression especially as he's guaranteed play time. Nothing to gain by going on loan to Rangers.

If Man City aren't covering his entire wage or at least the majority of it then Hull would be a better place to continue his development with the attraction that they have a bit of cash to pay towards his current wage.

Failing that I know nothing!! :cb

Well, compared to when he played for Dundee United, champions league group stages and Scotland caps. Yes, he has a way to go, but that explains the difference. If I were Southampton manager, I'd be happier paying £7m for a player who has been tested at the level Armstrong has, than £2m for a promising youngster at Dundee United who has played well in the SPFL, not unreasonable.

I'm also basing it on the fact Gary McAllister is a guy I would literally take the urine out of if he coached me (having spoken to him numerous times)..........a guy who without doubt has had a very distinguished career (and fantastic player) but is a guy who tries way way too hard to be nice to everyone............pros at that level will take the you know what out him.........absolutely guaranteed :agree: I think Gerrard sees himself as bad cop, but it's actually keystone cops as a partnership.

The only thing that Gerrard has going for him at the moment is his name. Of course he's going to win games. he's got a better squad than most teams in the spfl but the perception that he will be this tactical mastermind are, currently, totally unfounded.

The price changes as we progress in Europe. If we make it through the Greek tie McGinn in the side would be potentially be worth more than £3 Million to us. If we lose to them there's still a few days of he English window for him to leave.

This is what I'm thinking. I reckon if there were any players Rangers were going for that Celtic would quite like, they'd get them.

Celtic sell a player that didn't get much game time last year (I think) for 7m, read this morning that Cardiff have offered 1.5m for one of the The's best players (IMO). The financial difference between the two teams is huge, reckon Celtic have still to make a move and have got a few big signings up their sleeves! Yaya Toure???

Everybody is getting a bit annoyed by the lack of signings, I'm 100% confident that we have irons in the fire and just waiting on the right player. No rush, we can beat that mob from the faores with what we have. Be patient. Hibs track targets way in advance and they will have 20odd players on the radar with back up players if our main targets don't happen

If that really is the case he will go to Hull. Der hun and ourselves are competing for 2nd place in SPL, Scottish cup, Lauge cup and Europa league qualifiers. This is why I would prefer to sell McGinn to an English team. One or two good seasons and he’ll go for triple. Get a big percentage on a future transfer fee and we’ll be quids in.

That is how it works with loans. Players go out to play first team football and if they do well they are going to attract interest. Guess lot more clubs will pay higher percent of his wage now so we will struggle to get another loan for him.

Man City have got billions so I don’t think because the rangers pay £2-3 k more per week it will make a difference.

Brandon knows the hibs set up and that he’s likely gonna get regular games with us?
