Jesus. I was going out clubbing every weekend to his tunes not so long ago. I remember seeing him live and he was top notch. He stopped touring in 2016 for mental health issues. I hope it isn't what I think it is.

Produced some fantastic music, a shame to lose someone so talented. A few people calling him a pioneer but I don't really buy into that, dance music has been around for a long time now and there has been many popular artists from the genre before he came along, he did help it regain some popularity.

Robert Miles died last year and he had some amazing music as well.

He was a pioneer. He single-handedly defined the dance sound for multiple years and really crossed the divide between pop/club music. Maybe not so much in the UK, but in the States certainly.

Without meaning to sound callous, celebrity deaths don’t usually have any effect on me, but this one has hit me. Got so much nostalgia tied into his music.

I’d agree with you. I’m morenold school dance and maybe there’s an element of timing with the EDM explosion in America but he managed to cross over into the mainstream in spectualr fashion.

Those who saw his T performance in 2015 said it was the stuff of legend.

His song Levels was the Hearts anthem for the 2012 Scottish Cup Final because they have none of their own.

I had no idea who he was, my son just played me a few of his songs and I realised I knew them all as always on the radio in car.

I hope that one day people will differentiate between Avicii/Edm and "dance" music such as house, techno and all the 100 variety of sub genres that exist.

None the less, it's tragic and there are periods of my life where I feel that his tunes were the soundtrack.

I get what you're saying and understand that it's tragic when someone so young dies no matter how successful or not they were. I'm just simply not able to mourn the death of every individual that dies before I do therefore I reserve my grief for those that actually touched my life.

Apologies if it came across that way. Life constantly throws new experiences and emotions at you, so much so that it's useful to gauge the opinion of others when you experience them.

I thought I had a reasonably good understanding what popular culture the generations after mine was all about but obviously I was wrong, I guess we don't know what we don't know and Aviccii is apparently one of those defining moments that's made me realise I've turned into my dad. Guess it happens to everyone.
