£32 million for content that is 50% regurgitated? Seems an incredible waste of money for a 'new' tv channel!

All I can see happening is BBC 1 crooning even more like BBC England. Anything relevant to us will get punted to this new channel.

Can't be worse than the existing BBC Scotland though. We had England women's football on a Friday night the other week FFS. Surely something more relevant or interesting to us for a Friday night.

Oh great, another biased, anti independence, pro tory, anti Russian, pro Brexit (or is it anti?) channel is just what we need.

I quite like the idea. Post independence it will be known as bbc1

This is the crumb they are throwing to us to satisfy our nationalistic hunger. What a pathetic attempt.
We don't want or need another Mini-Me BBC.

Does sound pretty rubbish and a bit pointless.

And what the hell does international events from a scottish perspective mean? I want international events from an international perspective.

Reminds of the apocryphal story about the P&J covering the Titanic sinking with the headline Aberdeenshire Man Lost At Sea

Is there any real desire for this amongst the 'man on the street'? I struggle to imagine that with all that is going on in the world this is what is bothering people.

In the age of multiple sources of news, media and programming is there a huge demand for another 'regionalised' TV station? I can't see the kids giving up Kodi to watch BBC Scotland. It's always seemed a bit of a pet project for some but I struggle to see either the need or the appeal.

I agree. I felt the same indifference during all the discussion about the call for a "Scottish 6" news programme. BBC luvvies talking themselves into a guaranteed job.

The BBC is getting lots of criticism for the way it is supressing news of protests against Brexit and not reporting opposition the Brexit. Alistair Campbell’s tweets list many of the complaints as its one of his areas of interest.

Given Scotland was pretty anti-Brexit, has BBC Scotland faced the same criticisms?

It's going to be a colossal waste of time and money.

A sop to the politicians, pure and simple.

That's a new one, the BBC is usually criticised for being overly Remain/Anti-Brexit.

I think people who have a strong opinion are more likely to notice when an alternative opinion is provided, then they exaggerate it's frequency and decide it's not fair.

Correct.

As someone mentioned earlier it reminds me of the ‘Scottish Six’ debate which no one outside of Holyrood / Westminster / BBC seemed to give two hoots about.

Which is probably two hoots more than anyone cares about this channel.

Interestingly Ofcom have also decided to scrap the roll out of local tv channels because of a lack of interest.
