No surprise at all to see it was rock bottom. 2 weeks before George Best signed in November 1979 in the season we were relegated. What is quite surprising is to see that Morton were top at that stage. They ended up 6th just one point behind rangers.

I was interested to see though that we were still ahead of Celtic, who had won their 9th league title in a row the previous season and must have had a stinking start to the season.

Heh, that's no doubt some good mental exercise, but everyone else was just going to the website that the OP linked to, and typing in the date they were born! Us young 'uns clearly are getting far too lazy with all this technology we have now.

In your case, the website points out that Hearts were actually second at the end of January, but, yes, by season end, Rangers had displaced them.

I was born in August 1953. Checked the OP's link, knowing we hadn't won the 1952/3 league, but only now realise the circumstances. The Old Huns had the same points as us (43), but won on goal average (2.0513 against our 1.8235). Annoyingly, by today's rules we would have been champions. The Huns' goal difference was 41, ours 42. If 3 points had been awarded for a win instead of 2, we would have had 62 points to their 61. :fuming::brickwall

PS Also found my first-ever match, against Clyde on January 23rd 1960, when I was 6. Joe Baker hat-trick, 5-5 draw, and 2 of the famous five still in the team.

Celtc were in decline in the 2nd half of the 70s. Their 9 in a row ended in 74, the Old Huns won the last old style Div 1 league in 75 and the new Premier division in 76. Jock Stein was involved in a near fatal car crash in 75 but recovered for one last league and cup double after kidnapping Pat Stanton (:boo hoo:) in 77. Then Kenny Dalglish left for Liverpool and they really tanked the following season. The KD signing was a British record fee I think and a huge deal at the time.

Early Oct 1964 and we are 4th behind (1) Killie (2) some team in maroon and (3) Morton. The giants of Scottish football are 8th having won two games out of five and the team in blue that died and no longer exist were 12th.

End of season was Killie, Hearts, Pars then Hibs. Hearts lost league title to Killie on Goal Average. If Goal Difference had been used, Hearts would have won the title by 12 goals. Ouch!!

Rangers pulled their socks up and finished 2pts behind us. The mighty Celtic finished 8th. Behind Dundee and Clyde. Don’t let the revisionist history boys of Glasgow pull the wool over your eyes. There have been some really crap OF teams.

I agree although I do have one criticism which I'll get to below.

15 Feb 1965 Hibs were 2nd in the league... to Hearts :(

The Kinks were No1 in the UK and The Righteous Brothers were No1 in the USA - 1965 epic year for music.

I note that bottom of the league were Third Lanark and in 17th place were a team called Airdrieonians (1878-2002).
Strange that what happened in 2002? Were they liquidated? If so it's very good of the website to point out that Airdrieonians ceased to exist in 2002.

I notice that a team called Rangers (1872-2012) were 5th and Celtic were 6th.
Oh hang on it just says Rangers....

Get thee to Tinycastle.

I don't fancy my sister, drink from puddles, have a room temperature IQ, steal from charities, drive a Rover, wear a cardigan, bore people at the golf club bar, have six fingers on each hand, lick windows, vote UKIP, want to gaze at the sky for ninety minutes, wear clothing the colour of a burst haemorrhoid or pump money into a plastic cow.

So I wouldn't fit in.

Craig Levein was born in October 1964.

So on the last day of the 1964/1965 season he would have been 7 months old and not quite yet in control of his bowel movements.

The similarities between the events of 1965 and 1986 appear endless.

9th but had only played two games in the league, losing 3-1 at home to QOTS and then beating Hearts 3-1 at ER. East Fife were top with 5 points from 3 games. Rangers were 10th and Hearts 11th.

In our league cup section that season we qualified from a group containing Celtic, St Mirren and Partick. We beat Morton over two legs in the quarter final, 6-0 at home and 6-3 away but lost in the semi, 2-1 to Dundee.

Spookily enough all the top 5 were in the same position as the present table. The only exception to the present top 6 being the natural order who were in at a lofty 11th position and replaced in 6th by the mighty Clyde.

Willie MacFarlane was like a breath of fresh air for that half of the season. Playing players out of position to stuff the two cheeks and the diet huns. Good days.

10th ? You sure Jim . Surely 9 teams couldn’t have won their first game by more than 4 goals :cb

That is what it said, it seems that we were the only team that had only played one game. Even then, I don't understand why we wouldn't be higher on Goal average, as it would have been back then.

The date is 23 September 1950, if you'd like to see.
