This is very low key isnt it? I would consider myself a huge sports fan but didnt realise this was on until day two of the event. Anyway, enjoy all those competing and all those watching with interest.

That’s what training on an icy Portobello beach and in a farmer’s barn does for you. :greengrin

Is it just me or does the swimmer Peaty come across as an utter cockwomble with his comments about his gold medal winning performance being substandard?

He certainly does, but he's not normally like that or didn't used to be. Dotes on his gran, she was the main reason he took up swimming apparently. I see Duncan Scott won a gold medal for Scotland in the 100m freestyle.

He is putting pressure on himself ( peaty) to be the first swimmer to go under 57 seconds for 100m. The only thing what’s annoyed me so far is the non impartiality from the beeb. Been an enjoyable games so far

I thought it was the mark of a winner tbh. He knows that he's better than that performance and is annoyed that he underperformed. Not settling for 'good' is just part of the make up of world class athletes.

She is hopeless, but I can't see that, she ticks too many boxes. Apart from that I cannot understand why she is the main presenter these days. At least gabby Logan competed.

On a gender equality note, how come 3 women presenting the games yesterday. Imagine the uproar from the equality brigade if it was 3 men.

The Commonwealth Games just seems very pointless, athletes are competing to be the best in their chosen sport but in a restricted field!

Plus it will cost a huge amount to hold and it surely cant bring that much to the economy or future tourism to justify holding it.

No more so than Scottish, British or European events.

It's good for things like Bowls as well that aren't at the Olympics.

you could say that for loads of events, why only have a european championships in football, or the African nations cup

I’m missing my old sport, judo, not being in it this year. It’s usually a sport Scotland does well at as well. I believe it’s being upgraded to a core sport at the next games though.

My daughter just watched the blind runners going the 100 meters. She couldn’t get her head around why they had another runner running alongside them. When I explained it, she asked why they didn’t use guide dogs. Children can be so cute sometimes.

She got horsed this morning, not even close.

Anyone see the Paralympic 100m female final? Lassie won by a country mile with a world record. I’m wondering how they categorise them though cos some there looked to be a big discrepancy between her and her competitors.

It is some achievement from Tattie.

He'd struggle a bit if he had to rush straight from his work to play his ties though.

2 down going into last end and scored a four. Fantastic result, the Aussie skip had a bowl/drive at the head too with his last bowl and still couldn't cut it down.

Did you see that cow that came over and took a photo off him on her phone? I couldn’t believe how they were all standing over him as he lay on the ground. That was horrible to watch.

i'm thinking the runner will maybe get disqualified if anyone other than an official/medic helps a runner ? heartbreaking for him when he was so far ahead with just a shortish distance to go :agree: hope he's ok , robbie simpson gets the bronze :cb

You may be right, but it was pretty obvious the guy was in severe distress and wasn’t going to finish the race. The worrying thing was the length of time it took for medical attention to arrive.

I would go a bit further and say it was an utter disgrace how long they took to get there. It was heartbreaking watching Hawkins, who would have been the deserved winner, but was starting to look delirious, fell over and stayed down for a few seconds before getting up and trying to continue for a while, only to collapse again. All this time and not a medic in sight. Absolutely disgraceful, and the Scotland team should make a formal complaint IMO.

When he fell over the first time he shouldn’t have been allowed to continue. He looked like he banged his head the second time he fell over. Sometimes sportsman need to be saved from themselves.

Steve Cram
Commentator on the Gold Coast

He's hit his head on the barrier. I'm sorry if you're watching this at home, it's really distressing. He's going to hurt himself and there's nobody anywhere near.

We should have some more medical attention. This is a guy in real distress and someone needs to recognise it for his health at this point
.
Where on earth is the help? You cannot just wait at the finish line. They've got radios.

And finally somebody arrives. I think it's disgraceful.

Michael Johnson called it right. He said that as soon as it became obvious the lad was in distress he should have been immediately surveiled and medics and officials deployed to his location. That could have had a decidedly darker outcome had Hawkins sustained a head injury - the official statement is just an excercise in arse-covering.

I thought given the extreme nature of the marathon never mind the heat that some sort of quick medical response would have been set up. Thinking motorbike with paramedic on stand by for just such a scenario.
