It was somebody at work who was asking me, the one's that came to mind straight away are Michael O'Neill and Steve Clarke but I just wondered if anybody knew of any others?

Jimmy Calderwood applied at least once. I'd have taken him ahead of his namesake and a couple of others who were successful.

Who was the Icelandic chap who was supposedly in the frame before Mowbray got the gig?

Terry Christie was certain he had it until Alex Miller was announced

Yes. He watched a match from the stand. Notebook etc. Then Petrie changed his mind ....

Mind when Nevio Scala and Stuart Bacterbwhere linked with the job every time it came available.

Where Tommy Burns and John Robertson not also in the mix before Mowbray?

Didn't even get as far as an interview. In hindsight, probably a good thing, as he hasn't really been successful anywhere he's been as a manager.

Stuart McCall was bookies favourite before Neil Lennon signed.

Has Gordon Strachan ever thrown his hat in the ring? Imagine he’d be a candidate by the time NL moves on.

Stevie Clarke denied it did he not ?

The story I heard, on good authority I would imagine, is Clarke turned us down after enquiring about the budget he would have.

Did the Icelandic bloke not change his mind.

John Robertson, as someone else has said was also in the frame at one point. I remember him doing an interview where he giving it the "I have no loyalty to Hearts, I would jump at the chance to go to Hibs if they offered me the job" chat.

Don’t think so (although might be wrong) pretty sure Hibs changed their mind ....and your right Robbo was open to it at one point

Clarke agreed everything until he went through the contract again. Clarke was promised £5k a week but the contract changed and that included his number 2. Clarke was furious and walked out leaving Petrie looking like a fool at the time.

Did he not agree to take the job thinking he was gonna get £5k a week but then found out the £5k was to cover him and ALL the backroom staff. Him, his assistant, all the coaches, physio etc, etc...so he turned it down.

Clarke turned it down when he heard the management wage was for him and his assistant and not just him. Obviously lowered his day rate

Was there not some story doing the rounds that has was on more previously than our entire playjng budget was and he boaked at it?

Interesting to see what his Killie salary is although he needed to get back in I suppose.

Just been sacked from Northampton Town after no victories in 9 games and in the relegation places in league 1.

Wasn't Paul Sturrock tipped to come in from St Johnstone at one stage?

I recall it broke down at the last minute after Sturrock changed his mind.

I don't think he applied, so slightly off-topic, but wasn't Ray Wilkins rumoured to be a possible boss when Miller was struggling just before he resigned? I seem to remember something in the EEN about it either before or in the immediate days after Alex resigned.
