Just saw an interesting thread on Reddit, which had each Scottish team’s record signing, and adjusted by inflation to today’s prices.

De la Cruz was our record transfer at £700k in 2001, which is £1,100,628 today. Think we sold him for £2million after one season, so a great piece of business. Also scored one of my favourite ever Hibs goals against Hearts after about 14 seconds.

Andy Gorman was up there as well, at £325,000 in 1987 (£969,092 today). And apparently we paid a hefty fee for Alen Orman too?

The worst of Hearts financial doping was around mid 2000s with record signing Mirsad Bešlija for £850,000 (£1,169,225.). He made 9 league appearances. Also Laryea Kingston in 2007 for £500,000 (£659,500). Great value!

Old Rangers signed Tore Andre Flo for £12m, which is just short of £20m now. No wonder they went bust.

We paid £100k for Joe Harper, i wonder how much that would equate to now?

De la Cruz was one of my favourite players of all time! I’m sure I recall there was a bit of smoke and mirrors about the transfer dealings around him (possibly his former club got most of any transfer fee?)
I’m sure Keith Wright was around 400k, excellent business for the time.

Tin hat on but I thought Kingston was a very good player for Hearts and 500k was a bit of a steal however they probably paid him around 10k a week which is ridiculous and unsustainable. When I look back on the hearts cheating years, Kingston is the player who always springs to mind

Oh and also the unholy triumvirate that the fat slaver Jeffries signed Petric, Simpson and Tomasheck #dug*****

Think it was £120k and it was biggest fee ever paid by Scottish team at the time. Absolutely massive signing at the time but a striker was the last think that team needed. We used to score goals for fun. One year Jimmy Alan and Arthur scored 99 between them. I think Alan Gordon scored more than the whole Hearts team.

Same. He was quite a high profile signing. Sure he had just played, or was about to play in the World Cup

There was a suggestion that the reported £700,000 was the total package i.e. the transfer fee plus his wages during the contract. We did well out of it financially either way.

Keith Wright was about 500K back in 1990 - that'd equate to a few bob now 27 years later!

Didnt we pay around 200k for James Collins, from memory that was the highest fee paid by any team apart from Celtic that pre season?

The question is - will us or Hearts ever break our transfer record?

We did, and I'm sure there were still complaints the manager wasn't being backed.

Youre spot in there. Petrie must go!! ;-) Just a shame we couldn’t have bought Sparky for the ( alleged ) £150k ..........

It was well before they went bust. I'm sure they just refused to pay. Probably got sorted in the end, but sure there was something in it.

The Easter Road Story by John R. McKay has a chapeter detailing the Duff/Gray then Mercer period and the early Farmer years and some lf the fees we were paying then seem huge compared to the market we deal in now.

Orr, Goram, Wright, Hamilton and a few others were all 6 figure deals.

We not pay a fair wedge bringing Pat McGinlay home from Celtic?

I didn't actually think DLC was very good that derby aside. He was brought in to flog after the WC to a club down south after a years experience with us after he scored against Brazil.

Didn't Orman cost a fair whack?

I seem to remember him going for about £600k and coming back for about £500k.

Had just played in. Lot of people suggested at the time that he was 'on a cruise' rather than 'de la cruz'. Seem to recall that Eduardo "the tank" Hurtado (could have got every part of the aside from the tank bit wrong) came shortly afterwards in a dual role as a translator/centre forward. The tank was large and hard to stop (or start, or turn). De la Cruz turned out to be great business.

He signed before the season started before the 2002 WC in South Korea and Japan. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/hibernian/1377817.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/2145928.stm

My mistake - thought I'd have got the tank bit wrong

Just to turn it on it's head a bit what about the huge investment of £5,000 to sign Ivan?

Now that was a record signing!!!!

I still remember the utter dread in the Roseburn Bar when it was revealed The Tank was starting at Tynie when John Oneil scored the last min equalizer. :boo hoo:
