Link? His soon to be Euro Cup Winners’ Cup Aberdeen side were the opponents in first game I saw Hibs play. Given his success at smaller and bigger clubs then us, just goes to show the passion of our support that unforgettable day.

A think he could be talking about league cup final SOL vs Kilmarnock

Sir David Gray
30-03-2018, 09:27 AM
He was interviewed recently about his opposition to Hampden being no longer used as the national stadium and used several examples through the years about the good memories of Hampden and 21/05/16 was one such example.

“Hibs won a Cup Final and that celebration at Hampden, Sunshine on Leith, well, I don’t think there’s been a better football celebration ever in the game. It was unbelievable.” Sir Alex Ferguson.

It doesn’t get much higher praise than that - straight from the mouth of footballing royalty. Take a bow lads and lassies!

It's all very well saying that but he's not the one sitting miles from the pitch behind the goal.

The choices are either rebuild Hampden behind the goals or move to Murrayfield.

Might be controversial, but does anyone else reckon league cup final in 2007 was better ? I always felt 21/05/16 everyone was more disbelief and too busy greeting. League cup final was my first cup final win as a hibs fan was 15 years old and remember being in awe at end. Added with the players walking round the pitch and JC crying in middle looking around him.

Obviously 2016 was soo much better in many many other ways.

Green or white t-shirts, print the quote and perhaps even a pic of Sir Alec onto it, into the Hibs shop and job done.

I'd buy one.

I think you could put that quote onto a lot of things. Maybe even a derby banner...

No, I think 2007 was something special to you because of your age. And it was very special. But 21/05/16 was unparalleled. I'm convinced the whole 114 year story and eventual redemption will be a film one day.

If he did say League Cup it's probably slip of the tongue. Doubt he would be talking about a game 11 years ago.

Has anyone’s opinion of the celebrations changed through time since 21.5.16?
I was one who expressed disappointment that we never got to see us parade the cup round the Hampden pitch following the pitch invasion, but looking back now I wouldn’t change one part of it.
It was pure spite and nothing else in the decision to forbid a lap of honour, and I’m sure if they could have, they would have pulled the plug on SOL given half a chance.

I was disappointed at not seeing a lap of honour at the time. However I would have been on the park as well had my legs not been total jelly. You can't take that raw emotion and spontaneous reaction out of football and still have the game we all love.

As time passes that celebration will be spoken about in increasingly posutive terms and the actions of a few eejits in the Hibs support and a lot in the Rangers one will be forgotten. I agree the decision not to let the players back on the park was pure spite, the Police had organised themselves and no other pitch invasion eould have happened.

There was no justifiable reason to prevent the players from coming onto the pitch to parade the cup.

With the amount of police, stewards and horses on the pitch, there was never any danger of any further pitch invasion, plus the Rangers fans had all left by then so there was also no potential for trouble in that sense either. The scenes at full time were caused by pure impulsive reactions to what was a dramatic ending to a game that meant so much. Once people had calmed down, we all just wanted to enjoy the moment.

The decision to keep the players off the pitch was totally needless.

A pitch invasion was always going to happen if we ever won the cup.
But we had the temerity to do it against the subservient corrupt yet hugely incompetent pricks from Govan.
Any other team and this wouldn't even be a conversation.

It might not be the correct thing to say but for me the post match exuberance was part of the day, a lifetime memory. Friends down here remember that, talk of the passion and thats what it was. Yes it was a tad disappointing to miss out on the players parade the cup after the game but personally I wouldnt change a thing. It was purely magical. Ive been a football fanatic almost since birth and Ive never experienced anything like that.

You can't continuously kick a club when they're down. Ridicule. Mock. Even make up phrases for them then be surprised that when the hoodoo IS eventually broken, their is an outbreak of emotion

That's all it was. Harmless exuberation! A few idiots over stepped the mark with their behaviour but there's not a pitch invasion on the planet where a player/fans are not goaded.

I just hope i see another rendition in a Scottish cup final. For me that version always wins. The words. My tears are trying. THANK YOU! Genuinely that song could not be more apt

Glory glory afterwards was surreal too.
