I'd read about Tull before but hadn't been aware he was part of a 'Football Battalion'. More on that here:

Without belittling the contribution of any service personnel in the First World War, it sticks in the craw somewhat that Hearts make such a big deal of giving the impression that they and they alone were the club most associated with a football battalion.
