Irvine Welsh’s third Trainspotting novel will be published at the end of the month and Hibs historic cup win will be a large feature of the plot. Can’t wait to get a copy !

There was footage of Welsh doing a reading of a passage with the characters watching the cup final, but it seems to have fallen off the edge of the internet, sadly. Maybe it's still out there somewhere.

If it takes another 20 years for the film, hopefully we'll have a few more cups in the bag by then...

Looks like Begbie is going down the Jimmy Boyle path.

The forthcoming book will be the *fourth* installment in the Trainspotting saga, no? First there's Skagboys (prequel), then Trainspotting, and then Porno (sequel).

There was "The Blade Artist" a couple of years back, mainly about Begbie.

It got pretty dodgy reviews but I really enjoyed it.

The books and films are a bit out of kilter, T2 not being an exact interpretation of Porno but taking bits of it and adapting it with some extra stuff.

TBH, Trainspotting Film did exactly the same with Trainspotting book.

They would both be impossible to film as the book. A mini series might work better as there is so much depth to them.

I’ve read it...the cup final stuff is obviously quite stirring, and it’s good to see the view from the old characters at the game, especially as I saw Irvine Welsh himself on the train back from Glasgow on May 21! As for the book though...I wasn’t blown away. However, there are definitely a few eyebrow-raising moments.

Superfurry!!!!! There can only be one :-)

As for the book, who knows but it's been a long time since anything the Welshmeister wrote has blown anyone away. I'll still read it though.

Starts off well but gets pretty dark.

I thought it was brilliant right through.

It is very dark though.

Sickboy had come across as a bit of a lovable rogue at times in the other books. It was good to see him being a really nasty piece of work.

I like prequels, I like the way they work.

You know where it is all going to end up, you know the ending before it starts, but is fascinating to see how it all gets there.

All his books are brilliant but A Decent Ride featuring Juice Terry from the Glue novel was the funniest by far, I read it by the pool on holiday the year it came out and I had everyone staring at me as I laughed like a hyena as I lay on my lounger. I had to put it down at times as my sides were hurting from laughing so much.

Does Begbie assault all of the Rangers players?

Does Begbie assault all of the Rangers players?

Sadly no...in the Welsh novels timeline Begbie is a changed man (kind of). Shame, that would have been funny, and would make the Rangers statement after the game at least some way believable!
