Oh, I don't know. Cockamenny stories about psychiatric patients rummaging in a skip, funding a bottle of perfume, that was actually a deadly nerve agent.

Type of thing. You'd imagine secret agents wouldn't dispose of such material so casually, and might even have more effective subterfuge in the first place.

Right in the middle of the Brexit fiasco. It's almost as if somebody invented a story to keep distract from that.

Do you believe the Russian guys' story about their trip to Salisbury?

Do you believe the Russian guys' story about their trip to Salisbury?

Every word.

I just feel a wee bit of unbiased critical analysis of this would be in order.

Surely, by now, everyone accepts that all governments tell lies?

This could be a ‘clever’ double bluff by Putin to consolidate the kind of opinion and attitude many folk in this country have, that it’s a cokamamie story. In other words, wrap the whole affair in an amateur shroud, in order to deflect any Russian Government involvement. Personally I don’t think it’s as deep as that. In my opinion, Putin is laughingly saying, ‘We’ve done this and what are you going to do about it?’.

Agreed. Altenatively he might be saying, "I'll see your perfume bottle and raise you a cathedral spire".

Who knows?

I've got to say, I could have run with it, until the nonsense about the perfume bottle. Imagine if James Bond was handed a perfume bottle by Q? He'd be asking what was wrong with poisoned darts in umbrellas.

Much safer and more reliable ways to transport and dispose of a deadly nerve agent.

But the whole thing seems to be a game of bluff and double bluff, which will have conspiracy theorists up all night on their laptops.

Of course all governments tell lies, but they also tell the truth.

I'm more inclined to believe the UK government on this occasion, even though some of the story is strange, because the Russian response has been utterly incredible.

I don't think that the distract the public from Brexit suggestion holds any water either. If anything, the government are ramping up the no deal is a disaster rhetoric, hopefully to soften us up for a second referendum.

I watched an interesting programme about 9/11 the other night. One of the points made was that conspiracy theorists believe in the "infallibility of government", ie they don't believe that governments make cock ups.

I can accept that the whole thing is just as we see, but also like alternative theories. Sometimes though truth is stranger than fiction.

I still like Putin's diplomatic skills though.

I'd never thought of it like that, but of course, "it was a mistake" wouldn't penetrate even the flimsiest if tin helmets.

I seem to have developed a habit of disagreeing with your final sentences today, and this is no exception! :hilarious

I can't think of that many? Apart from using a diplomatic bag, what would be the safest way to transport a very small volume, securely?
We're all allowed to carry liquid on our person whilst flying as long as it's under 100ml, now I'm not a professional associated with any national agencies but as a guy on the street I can totally see how a working glass vial dressed up as perfume would and could work. The mechanics of the bottle would work. The cover story is plausible. It's an everyday item hidden in plain sight!!!

Really?

You've stopped thinking about Brexit because of it?

I certainly haven't and neither have the media.

Maybe I'm unique in having the ability to think about more than one thing. :dunno:
