The “Stanton or Sauzee” thread got me thinking. What would be the best team of players with surname starting ‘S’ that I’ve seen in my lifetime. Here’s my 4-4-2 attempt - with an admission I never saw Gordon Smith in a Hibs shirt but did see him at ER wearing a Dundee shirt in my first ever Hibs game. That counts - yeah?:greengrin

Any alternative teams?

Ronnie Simpson

Bobby Smith
George Stewart
Franck Sauzee
Erich Schaedler

Gordon Smith
Pat Stanton (C)
Dean Shiels
Eric Stevenson

Colin Stein
Anthony Stokes

Subs:
Gregorz Szamatouski
Lewis Stevenson
Ivan Sproule

Manager: Hugh Shaw
(OK - I wasn’t around in his day but any manager who leads a team to 3 top division titles must be worth a shout!!)

The manager should be Stubbs.

The manager should be Stubbs.

Winning the Scottish Cup was wonderful and hugely important, but not a patch on Shaw's achievements.

I'd have J B Sloop in there.

I would have Gary Smith in the back four. Always thought that he was a fantastic player for us. Free transfer too.

Got choice except Dean Shiels. I would have Maurice Stevenson/Mikey Stewart/Oli Shaw in there before him.
What about Bob Shankly as manager?

Winning the Scottish Cup was wonderful and hugely important, but not a patch on Shaw's achievements.

Winning the Scottish Cup has transformed this club in a way that most of us could only have dreamed about two years ago.

It wasn't just a trophy that Stubbs won, he oversaw the resurrection of our club.

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that.

All true but nothing like the problems Shaw had.War just finished,no money and manager dropping dead.Winning game after game and running three teams with only him and a trainer.

When I read the thread title I thought you meant someone with a name like Graeme Souness. I couldn’t think of any more, other than Mike Denness who captained the English cricket team despite being Scottish (good sportsmen can usually shine in more than one sport).

Then, trying to make a more direct Hibs connection I wondered whether Shaun Dennis and Denes Rosa could be included with a bit of flexibility.

That’s most of the way towards a decent fives team at the very least.

Agree.

It was pretty hard work being a Hibs fan for a few years until we won the cup........it coincided with a number of factors I guess, but certainly help align all the planets.....

How about a team of all the Johns.

John Burridge
John Brownlie
John Blackley
John Madsen
John McNamee
John Hughes
John Collins
John McGinn
John O’Neil
Johnny Hamilton
John Hazel

Might not score too many, but the opposition forwards would know they’d been in a game:wink:.
