Didn’t even break 19k. Wow.

£15m and counting for a couple of thousand more seats and a shiny basic stand.

They’ll never hold the highest modern derby attendance that we’ve recorded at Easter Road. And for a team absolutely obsessed with attendance numbers, knowing this will always eat away at them a bit and makes me happy. To not even reach 19k is laughable!! 😂

Just think what the attendance could have been if they had designed the new mega structure properly with a self contained TV studio instead of having to sacrifice some seats for a temporary TV studio. Might have got them a little bit over the 19K. (Tee Hee)

So, am I getting this right?

They had a capacity of somewhere around 17500 before, spent £15m and the first game which they can expect to fully sell out, without the daft tv box in our end, they show an attendance of 18700?

Jesus, even in the journal of Hearts overspending cockups, this stand must reign supreme :top marks

It really cant be that much larger than Pittodrie, even now !!!

Aye, a quick google suggests Pittodrie is about 400 more than ER - although I doubt they ever get close.

Wikipedia suggests Tinie is the 6th largest football stadium in Scotland - which would be right.

Order may not be bang on, but broadly.......

Doing the arithmetic, it means they spent £12,500 per new seat. If we give them the exceptionally liberal assumptions that all their upcoming competitive matches NEED those extra 1200 seats AND they're getting £25 per ticket from them, that'll take 500 games to recoup their investment, or about 10 years. In terms of Hearts business model, I think that their usual plan of just waiting for some anonymous rich person to write them a cheque for no reason is a little more sound.

I think they will recoup a fair bit in extra hospitality, corporate events etc. It's not all about bums on matchday seats.

I don't think that's fair.

They're usually much more pro-active than that, principally by lifting the nearest available poppy money.

Quick check on Wikipedia say 17,899 for rugby park so a bit short of that.
Also according to Wikipedia Arbroath and forfar have bigger stadiums than Hamilton and Ross county.also Rob Roy fc have the 28th biggest stadium in Scotlandm

Was there many empty seats on Sunday? I know our end was sold out.
Is there still work to be done that would increase capacity? Police box removal for example?

The figure of 29,099 appears a lot online regards the Tynecastle capacity.
Think someone needs to sharpen their pencil :lolyam:

There is no chance they will ever get over 20k.

TV box -
Police box
2nd tunnel (who even has such a thing)

Once they spend money fixing the last two.

Still won’t take it over 20,000.

Laughing stock of a club. 1 in 10 will be 1 in 11 soon.

The TV box was moved to the N block, which used up a load of seats and apparently displaced a bunch of jambos over to the premium seats in that stand.

Rugby park is another stadium similar to the pbs that has too many seats crammed into small stands. Accident waiting to happen. Good pies though!

I thought that doughball loves to announce what a great support they have?

So, there are two possibilities.

Tynecastle's capacity is actually ~1,500 lower than Easter Road
They couldn't sell out the home end for a derby and had 1,390 empty seats (going by stated capacity of 20,099)

There's a third possibility. The capacity figure mismatch is due to Hearts' miscalculating the average girth and height of their typical supporter.

The architects were given this as their model of a typical Jambo, and planned the stadium accordingly:

However in practice, the reality turned out closer to this:

To fix this, future Hearts attendance figures will be measured in Ronnie Corbett Equivalent units, where 18,700 actual people through the turnstiles is equal to 20,099 RCEs.

Family yam who is a bit anal about these things predicts between 18800 and 19100 but apparently it's all about quality and they now have the best!

Looking at their advertising on Sunday they might be leaving Hibs standing. Edinburgh Airport were the Match partners for the game. Think we have a lot to do.

Our commercial sales dept do seem to struggle to compete with our direct competitors with sales well below the yams and Aberdeen.

Great point!!!!!

They built the stadium before televised live games became the norm, and ever since even V the Uglies they get poor crowds at home?

If you think back, did they not give up 1 of the home supporters stands to Celtic for their last game of the season????

Very sad state of affairs, and will not get any better I'm afraid!!!

I'm not sure that makes me jealous.

The real capacity is actually 19514. They lost just under 500 seats from Sunday's "capacity" crowd due to the TV box. All the "restricted views" were sold to suckers.

Plenty of unsold seats dotted around the home end, and not for the first time either at Tynecastle for a derby.

They will be paying significantly less in upkeep and maintenance for their new Stand -v- the old ramshackle one. So it’s not just about additional income but reduction in costs
