View Full Version : Levein "Natural Order" statement - sectarian?

Sorry, But I'm old enough to remember the term "natural order" being banded about by Loyalists in Northern Ireland in the 1970's. It was deemed sectarian back then. Is this what Levein means or is it just a poor choice of words by an idiot? Either way, he needs to explain and apologise.

I really don't think there was anything sectarian in his comments. What he failed to mention was that they had sneaked a narrow win over Hibs and this was the natural order of things from the late 70's to the late 80's, except for the amount of times that they sneaked a draw. This natural order threatened to come back during the 90's and for a short period in the 00's but Hibs did manage to beat them on occasion. What he, and their fans, fail to remember is that when they were not expecting this natural order to be maintained they didn't bother turning up to watch. For some of their fans this means that they think they're still on an unbeaten run of 220. He's just a fanny and not brave enough to be deliberately sectarian.

It really isn't.

"Natural Order" is an extremely common thing for arrogant pricks to say and I'll wager most folk wouldn't see a particular connection to NI in the 1970s.

End of the day he's a classless prick in charge of a hoofball crowd of thugs that narrowly won a match against a Hibs side who needed to deliver an astonishingly poor performance for them to get that win.

Only thing that concerns me is putting the puddle drinkers back in their box next derby.

Levien’s a fanny but him gloating over a derby win is good for the game. More managers should do it.

If the guy is a Yam then he needs to have a word and so do any of his puddle drinking pals who he tries to impress by showing them his 'wind up post' on Hobos . Net.

If it is a wind up attempt its a piss poor one. Sectarianism is a curse on the game in this country and anybody who tries to promote it by trying to deliberately introduce it as a factor between us and the Yams in this or any other falling out needs to stop following football altogether.

It is not sectarian, but I think it is never too far away with them. It is a mind set of the establishment or at least council type establishment as they try to look down on us. Personally I'm glad that they think they are somehow better than us, because when we are winning it must have them suffering and unable to comprehend the world as it is. They are grey, dull men, whose only concern is making sure Hibs don't win.

They do sail close to the wind in their own forelock-tugging way.

A couple of their club's recent obsessions:

- McCrae's Battalion - vocally Anti-Catholic on it's inception and in it's recruitment.

- The Rosebery Family - Archibald Primrose 5th Earl of Rosebery, Head of the Orange Order in Scotland, Honorary President of Hearts and vehement Anti-Catholic, "whatever happens in Ireland is for England to decide" was one of his more considered responses on discussing Irish Home Rule whilst Prime Minister.

Chuck in a good few renditions of the Billy Boys and no response from anyone at Hearts (Budge seems to have given up) and it's a thin veneer.

Saying that I doubt Levein has the nuance or subtlety to make such a reference.

He's trying to appeal to his support's inflated sense of importance and unjustified sense of superiority.

As we've seen with many statements from that club before, they're a classless club with classless people in charge.

I'm glad to say that those in charge of Hibs are above cheap digs.

But no, it's in no way sectarian.

When I heard that the statement had been made I was surprised and imagined CL taking an undeserved high and mighty stance.
When I saw it on TV I thought he was clearly joking when he said it.

It was discussed on sportsound with Tom English saying it was banter and Mickey Stewart saying it was disrespectful.
I think it was an attempt at banter but I don't think he should have said it.

Indeed, "natural order" in its simplest form means, to me, that what is meant to happen simply and spontaneously happens.

For example, right thinking people intend that a charity should receive all of it's funds immediately, a bill that is due is paid, etc

I could go on.

Nah, Levein's 'Natural order' for him actually means 'Other People's Money'/stealing charity-money that's all he knows, it's what he was brought up with - Budgie prefers the term 'Mystery benefactor' !

I don't agree with the Op but funnily enough, if you Google the phrase "the natural order of things" and Hitler you do get results with a quote attributed to him about religion.

"Let it not be said that Christianity brought man the life of the soul, for that evolution was in the natural order of things..."
