As in player of the second half of last season or first half of this.

Was going to say Jason Cummings or Efe Ambrosebut think I'd give it to Paul Hanlon. Been brilliant for some time.

Paul Hanlon has been brilliant for quite some time. It's a wonder to me that we've conceded as many as we have this season considering the talent we have at the back.

I actually think it’s an indication of how much the Scottish game has grown

For the calendar year 2017 our most consistent performer has been Hanlon IMO. Closely followed by Boyle.

But Lewis and Boyle ran him close.

Boyle ahead of Hanlon for me due to Hanlon missing about 4 months at the start of 2017 due to injury.

First 6 months of the year was easily McGregor. Was keeping teams out on his own at times last season, especially during Hanlons injury. Overall probably Boyle or Hanlon, both have grown a lot

Tough one to cal for me over the course of 2017. Only because we’ve had so many great performers which is so pleasing!

If I had to choose one I’d go Boyle. Just because I think he’s been our best player since promotion.

I'm much the same as the rest. I can't decide among Lewis, Hanlon and Boyle. All had very good years and performed at a good level consistently. They have also had their moments but so has every player.

Boyle just shading it from Ambrose. I think that this season in particular both have been outstanding and in addition there individual styles of play make watching Hibs exciting, love the two of them.

:agree:

There is a few contenders with SJM, Efe, Hanlon but Boyle shades it for me.

His 1st touch from passes, especially the long diagonals has been outstanding. Is always a danger on the ball, has pace to burn and what looks like effortless running.

Can't think of another Hibs player than has improved so fast in such a short space of time. A bench player just over a year ago to one of the first names on the team sheet.

Boyle has improved dramatically and the effort he puts in is unrivalled.
Both him and the coaching staff deserve massive credit.
Could easily have been moved on with Keatings.

Next Improvement: Can he learn to finish
Next Risk: Teams work out how to stop him. Will soon no longer have McGinns long passes setting him on his way.

How will it end?

Our best player of 2017? McGinn or McGeoch. Most improved? Boyle. Others worthy of a mention are Hanlon, Ambrose and McGregor. Holt, Cummings and Murray also made valuable contributions despite only being here for part of the year.

Simon Murray for me. He has been critical this season and his goals and attitude have been first class. Special mention to Martin Boyle, Paul Hanlon and Super John McGinn

So you're player of the year is a player that's been here less than half the year and is also now third choice because Lennon has realised he ain't very good at football?

Boyler or Dylan for me

Dylan - love how he always wants to get on the ball (and rarely gives it away). When on form he makes us tick. Only negative is that he needs to score more goals

Boyler - wouldn't like to play against him. He causes defenders problems and has chipped in with goals too (seems more likely to score when he doesn't have time to think about it!)

Plenty of deserving contenders :greengrin

I wasn't convinced Boyle would be more than an impact substitute at this level, but instead he's firmly established as a key member of the starting eleven which makes him my choice.

Lewis Stevenson

:agree::agree: This time last year, half the people on this board wanted him punted. Proved every critic wrong and hard to find anything but praise for him this season. For that transformation alone, Lewis would have my vote.

For me it has to be Super John McGinn. His attitude, workrate, drive and skill are the key factors. Squirrel came a close second with his pace and easily going past opposition players is very entertaining and if he adds more goals he'll be playing for Scotland soon. Hanlon and Lewis were next in line however well done to all the players who've moved the club forward this year.

Hanlon .... But there's a lot of players can be proud of how they have coped with the pressure of absolutely having to win the Championship and how they have coped with returning to the Premiership, to pick out just a few.

Stevenson ... yes he has his moments, but he very rarely has an utter stinker and is still a tough opponent for any opponent IMO.

Boyle .... Has improved so much under Lennon and a danger from the first to the last minute, his final ball and finishing could be better. but if they were it isn't just SJM we would be afraid of losing this month.

McGregor .... So consistent, probably wins 90% of the balls he competes for.

McGeouch .... What a silky player he is and its great to see him put together a run of games.

Ambrose ..... Bloody bomb scare, but when he isn't he is great to watch and has been far more good than bad.

John McGinn ..... Of all the players on our books he is the one under the most pressure to perform and he faces up to that with dignity, guts and determination, never hiding even when he isn't at the top of his form. If he does leave in January it will be as the most loved player at this club since Frank Sauzee.

Marvin Bartley .... If we played every game against Hearts he would be right up there with Pat Stanton :greengrin

Really can't make my mind up between McGeouch or Boyle - Boyle's definitely the most-improved player this season, he's been going past defenders like they don't exist but his finishing still needs work, at one-on-ones he's poor. Dylan, has really come on to a great game, some of his passing is just sublime - but are his injury-problems finally over ??

It's not suddenly a thing, the most prestigious individual award in Football the Ballon d'Or is based on calendar year performance and has been awarded since 1956.

Boyle for me.

He became more of a complete player in 2017. His pace, creativity and vision won us a number of matches. A constant threat who has clearly worked on his fitness and can now last the full match.

When he first signed I expected him to remain an impact sub (Sproule-esque) type of player for us, however he's established himself as an important, must start each week.

Mentions to Hanlon, McGinn and Efe.
