SJM and Stokes taking corners is not really paying results and Lewis cannae cross a T never mind a ball. Back in the day when I was a boy the wingers took the corners so why isn't Brandon taking them from the left and Squirrel from the right, at least they can whip a ball in accurately.

Been saying that for months. I love SJM but his corners rarely come to anything.

Our corners today were shocking. Sometimes the short ones work, sometimes they don't, but today they were just abhorrent.

Our set pieces in general are very poor

Boyle's strength isn't exactly crossing the ball. Barker perhaps slightly better but again not what he's known for.

It is good seeing us try short options given our lack of a Henderson type to get the ball in the box.

Corners, throw-ins, you name it, we are sadly lacking.

I have been going to ER since the early 1950s and honestly can say we have never taken good throw ins in that 60 years. As to corners and free kicks they have varied from poor to fantastic but at the moment they are poor. The short free kick from Stokes to Barker in the second half looked like a good idea but nobody told Brandon they were doing it. Often it is just poor communication.

Our best corner today was in the 93rd minute where we tried to keep it there. Even then still contrived to concede a goal kick when another corner would have seen the ref blow as soon as it was taken.

As for the other attempts today? Let’s just blame the wind shall we? :aok::wink:

We need to start cashing in on the number of corners we get each game. The retutn from them is shocking. McGinn’s delivery is generally very poor. I’d hope NL is trying to rectify this. Not good enough at all.

If nothing else it would give them some practice in crossing the ball.

Set pieces were the real downside to today's performance. A couple of these short corner/free kick routines were keystone cops stuff. Do they even practice them at training?!?

Ball into the box, a shot or a proper pass (i.e. not ******g 6 inches to your left) should be the only permitted options.

To be honest I thought when Stokes took a corner it was alright.

SJM's set pieces are woeful though

Trouble with Stokes taking the corners is that if there is a dropped catch or a knock on, you want it to drop to Stokes to put away.

Stokes' were okay enough in my book.

Wonder if playing 4 CBs would help us attack them. Fonts or Porteous into CB and Hanlon to LB.

No idea if it'd work but certainly a way to get more height and power into the team.

Our set pieces are often pathetic, it's almost hard to believe that they ever practice them in training.

John McGinn cannot possibly be the best at taking corners in our whole squad.
