A friend just bought tickets for Joan Baez concert and has just been ripped off by Viagogo. £20 booking fee/ ticket. Hidden charges till the end. Appears their website is set up to con the unsuspecting buyer.
Be warned!!!!!! Please spread the word. It's the only way to beat traders of this ilk.

I mistakenly booked tickets for the darts through viagogo last year. It’s a complete rip off. What annoyed me more was that the official selling agent only had a few seats left, and they weren’t very good ones. Viagogo had loads of seats in prime positions. These companies should be banned.

The events sell direct to viagogo / GetMeIn etc. for many of the premium seats

Websites that allow touts to rip people off is bad enough but selling direct to these sites is even worse. Just had a look at viagogo for the first time and some of the prices are eye-watering!
Letting the principles of supply and demand dictate prices just leaves people wide open to being exploited by the profiteers. I know certain musicians have spoke up about this but it really shouldn’t be up to them...who is supposed to be looking out for the public and who can ban this?

Please spread the word as much as you can. It's the only way we can fight these bandits. It's shocking in this day and age where scalping is illegal these rogues can do it legally .... and apparently with the blessing of the promotors.

It's been a mystery to me for a while that ticket touting is illegal, yet these *******s appear to be able to operate legally.
I hate them, and all that they stand for.

The cost of Spurs tickets traded through StubHub over the last few seasons was disgraceful and they were the official forward sellers for the club.

Thanks for the links HC. I can't believe they've let these Dick Turpins get away with their shenanigans for so long. These guys make Ticketmaster look like Mother Theresa.

That's ridiculous, £20 per ticket is just robbery, should be made illegal

Really glad to got to see some great bands back in the day when you had to queue for tickets. Can't see me ever paying over the odds for a gig again. People I would want to see I either have done or they're dead!(or still cheap)

Theres a few artists/bands I’d like to see, but I refuse to pay over the odds.
i know the venue, promoter etc all get a cut, but I refuse to accept that someone who’s worth millions needs me and everyone else to pay £100+ for a gig. I’m not saying they should play for free and I firmly believe they should be paid well for performing music which they’ve written and created, but there’s a cap on that value for me.

I have done and shared it with a lot of people - even the agent of the artist who we are going to see. He said they were aware of this shoddy practice and were looking into it.
Many thanks for the link, HC. I hope all netters spread the word. It's at least one way we can fight these despicable parasites.

My friend has been following up on info from the "Victims of Viagogo" facebook page.
Well worth a visit if you've been scammed or know someone that has. There's been a lot of adverse publicity and some signs of real action against these parasites. Should have happened a long time ago however, better late than never.

Good for him. If all the big acts took the same stance then it would end this racket.

I’ve been going to concerts for years. Spent far too much money on them at normal price, never mind full price!
I’ve been lucky enough to get tickets for every band I’ve wanted to see with the exception of Queens of the Stoneage and Kraftwerk at the Usher Hall.
Seems like common sense but folk might not do this. But if an act announces a tour there’s a big chance they’ll have a pee sale for fans. In most cases this requires you to join a mailing list and you’ll be sent a link before tickets go on sale to everyone else.
It’s not ideal but if you miss out on them in the ore sale, try very first thing as soon as they go on sale. Not ideal if you’re at work, but a little bit of effort helps. Get logged in or registered before they go live and get set.
Play it like a numbers game. There might be more than one site offering tickets so have them all ready to go.
Remember and try the venue itself. I managed fo get Biffy Clyro tickets from the Usher Hall despite forgetting my password so I had to go through the whole reset password scenario. Far quicker than what it would have been on Ticketmaster.
And if you don’t get tickets, it’s not the end of the world. Life goes on. Check Twickets which is a really good resale sight where you can only sell tickets for the price of their value.
I hate secondary ticket sites. Let’s imagine there’s a gif you really want to see. Let’s imagine you’re logged on and ready to go for the tickets on sale on 9am on Friday.. let’s imagine you buy two tickets.
Let’s also imagine that after that you and the person you were going with have both had a change of heart and you decide to sell them on a secondary site? To get logged in and post them for selling it would take about three minutes? Coupled with the time it took you to buy them in the first place about three to five minutes? Best case scenario six to ten minutes.
That’s what’s annoying. As soon as they’re on sale they’re also on sale at secondary sites yet it’s almost physically impossible to do that if the person selling them is a genuine gig goer.
What Id like to happen is that Ticketmaster needs to say before the tickets go on sale on many tickets are available in the pre sale, how many tickets go in general sale and how many tickets will be sold by secondary ticket companies linked with them. There needs to be more clarity.
Also, there needs to be more done to cancel tickets on secondary sites. I know Biffy Clyro are doing it for the MTV gigs but people like them need to stand up to the touts.
I think the platforms that companies like Ticketmaster use leave a lot to be desired. I don’t think they’re designed for many people trying to use them at specific times. Wasn’t it the cas Hibs used them (might still do?!) and they buckled under the strain at one point maybe cup tickets?
When tryi to get tickets for Liam Frays solo acoustic shows I was on at exactly nine in the morning and Inwas told they were sold out. They didn’t appear on Viagogo but I’m not sure if there’s 600 tickets available and 600 people showing an interest it just says it’s sold out and you need to refresh and try later. But again it’s impoasible to be logged in and buy tickets within seconds.
I love going to gigs. Always have done, always will. Music nowadays is more disposable than what it used to be. I can’t remember the last time I bought an album but I can remember the last time I bought concert tickets (10.02 on Friday!)
So while music is becoming more disposable, people realise that there’s more money to be made in concerts and festivals and as a result are exploiting concert goers. It needs to stop now.
Rant over!

Well said. I've no intention of going as I'm on holiday but I went through the process on Viagogo for Rolling stones tickets at Murrayfield. 2 tickets were £220.

Are you sure that was the 'final' cost? Viagogo apparently have a sneaky way of hiding their additional costs till after they have your card details and you've pressed 'buy now'.

:agree:
A lot of places cancel the tickets that get sold through these parties and it just ends in disappointment and a difficult chain of refunds.
