Saved us from being dragged into a real relegation dogfight when he took over and, forced to or otherwise, started the process of blooding some great young players.

Best of luck to him.

Always say we have him to thank for “starting” the Mowbray revolution by introducing the likes of Deek, KT, Gaz, Whitty, Scotty, etc.

Best of luck big man with the treatment. Hope it’s a success.

He turned up in The Montfort opposite Hampden in 2007 just so he could say he had a drink with Maud McFarlane when Hibs won a cup. Class act, good luck Bobby.

Beyond class. The only time I seen Maude in a boozer was when she was chasing us back on to the bus. Speedy recovery Bobby.

We were in the Northen one night when Bobby came in with some other guy. We said hello, etc. then left him in peace, although it was obvious we were all Hibs fans.

They sat and had their drink just along the bar from us and, as he was leaving, he put a round in the till for myself and my 3 pals.

So thanks again for that Bobby and good luck.

A much better manager than we thought at the time and one who did a much more important job than results suggested.

I hope you get well enough soon to enjoy the pictures.

I hope you get well enough soon to enjoy the pictures.Nobody knows whether Franck could have turned things around but Williamson fulfilled his initial remit in keeping us up. Thereafter was not a good time to be Hibs manager as we were the first top flight team to introduce drastic cost cutting measures, including Bobby himself accepting a hefty pay cut.

I didn't really enjoy the football we played under him, but he had one hand tied behind his back so it's probably wrong to judge.

Good luck to him. Was thinking about him when I posted 'Andy McLaren' in the 'Players who should have been with us longer' thread.
Any manager who pays a trialist out of his own pocket is good in my book. When there's so much talk of money these days, stories like that make me realise that some in the game really, truly love it.
All the best BW.

Bobby never got full credit for bringing through the likes of Derek Riordan, Garry O'Connor, Scott Brown, Tam McManus, Steven Whitaker, Kevin Thomson. etc. OK he had little option but he did introduce the 'golden generation' only for Tony Mowbray and John Collins to get most of the credit.

Too many on here were all too ready to fall for crap stories put about by John Robertson (some years later) with no backing from the press archives or even common sense regarding the Bobby Mann saga.

Good luck Bobby.

That's what always struck me about Bobby, even allowing for his questionable views on entertainment, he genuinely seems to love the game. Not sure how many British managers would spend the best part of a decade in Africa but I'd imagine it wouldn't be many.

Best of luck to him.:agree: will never be remembered as a great, in Hibernian manager's history of course but not in the "worst" category either. he did a sterling job with Kilmarnock fc, winning the Scottish cup at Ibrox , a game I was at. Was he not our manager when we lost a final to Livi? age is a funny old game in itself. his Cinema comment was a cracker eh? wish him the best though.

He was also a manager who was there when Hibs beat Celtic in the quarter final and Rangers in the semi final. A young Hibs team came up against a bigger, stronger and more experienced Livingston, full of players that Hibs could never have afforded at the time. Come to think of it. Livvy couldn't afford them either as they were in administration at the time!

As for the cinema comment, he was managing Kilmarnock at the time.

Exactly. A lot of folk seem to overlook the fact that although Livi were in admin they never had to shed any of their big hitters before that final. BW has also explained the old pictures gaff many times in that the journo in question used a fair amount of artistic licence to take it way out of context. Good luck Bobby.

Had the pleasure of interviewing Bobby a few years ago and he's a top bloke. His football maybe wasn't the best to watch but he's never dissed Hibs and wouldn't do.

I wish him a speedy return to full health
