These seem to be a dying breed. Dianne’s Pool Hall will be a particular miss for myself. The Edinburgh Tartan Army buses leave from there and it was always a pleasant way to start the day out, The Marksman and Dukes Head in Duke Street are notable exceptions. Even rarer on a Sunday. Suggestions welcome.

****! I remember Diannes. I played a gig there with the band shoehorned in behind a pool table!

The Scotsman on Cockburn Street opens at 9. It used to be 6, I used it now and and then when I worked night shift. Porters at Piershill also opens at 9.

Think both are 11 on Sundays though.

Quite a few Wetherspoons seem to sell their stale beer to aging alcoholics from first thing in the morning.

Diane's going is a disaster.

We started our football night there every year. The kitty went a decent way towards a good bevvy and plenty pool before venturing elsewhere later.

A decent place to go in mixed company pre Derby too.

It had a dodgy reputation and wasn't to everyone's tastes but at least it was a bit different.

I presume it's turning into another soul-less 10 a penny chain pub that won't let us in and is pish anyway?

Stratfords on Gorgie Road was always open early.

Fortnight ago there was some random full-on dancing by himself outside Straties around 6.30 in the morning, and he was wearing Real Madrid top and shorts.....

Sure the Locarno Snooker on Slateford opens at 9 am seven days a week

Are there still laws governing opening times in Scotland?

The Portobello Bar opens at some ungodly hour of the morning. Always seems to be in full swing when I walk past taking the kids to school on a Monday morning.

I seen the same guy (well I assume it is) doing the same outside the marksman on duke street last week in the pouring rain.

Is Pennyblack’s still there? Used to go there or Spider’s Web after a night out - been away from Edinburgh for a while now though .

I used to walk past there on the way to work, there were a good few mornings I was tempted to drop off for a pint!

Don't think it's been there for a good few years now - although it was always quite well-hidden :greengrin

A few disgraceful uni night outs finished in Penny Black's with a walk home at about 7.30am while folk were opening shops and heading to work. Bl00dy students.

Pennyblack is now part of the Voodoo Rooms. You can hire the particular room/bar/dance floor that was the Pennyblack. We had a night out there on Thursday and it brought back some memories.
