Who was that match between, and are there any highlights?

I saw an interview once with the keeper who let in the twenty goals, who said he thought he hadn't had a bad game :greengrin

No idea why I woke up thinking about this.

Selkirk lost 20-0, can't remember the other team.

I played in goals a couple of times for Selkirk, if I had been playing that day it would have been a few more than twenty.

Was it Selkirk? I always thought it was a league game.

You're right, BS44, I just looked on Wiki. It was a Scottish Cup tie 1984-85: Stirling Albion 20-0 Selkirk.

You know you're a bad side when Stirling Albion put twenty past you :greengrin

For Selkirk unfortunately!

You would've though at 6 or 7 damage limitation tactics might have came into play

Really? He'll always have that story to tell. I assume Selkirk spent most of the game defending, so a hard day to be a striker :greengrin

I think some of the Selkirk lads got invited up to Sterling for the 30th anniversary of the game recently... not sure if there were any takers!

There’s been a couple of Stirling fans on Off the Ball recently saying it was “only” 19.

They got off lightly, IIRC Bon Accord lost 36–0 to Arbroath in the cup. Pretty sure that's a record?

It was the record until 2002, when AS Adema beat SO l'Emyrne 149-0, as the result of 149 own goals.

Shirley the ref should have been dishing out yellow cards by the barrowload to the losers, resulting in them not having enough players to continue the match?

Which one's your dad Austinho ? I remember a lot of these player's from the photo. I left after the 14th if memories serve me right. :greengrin

Willie Ormonds Grandson, Jimmy played and scored for Albion that day. I used to play with him at under 21 level

Quite surprising really as the Selkirk 'keeper had 20/20 vision.

Given that it was all own goals and not a proper match, I'm surprised it's recognised as the record.

I have vague memories of Seklirk’s manager that day playing amateur football in Peebles in the early 70s, decent player iirc.

Big Paul in the back row was a big Hibee as well but plenty of Huns in that photo I'm afraid. Your dad was standing next to a couple of them in Jackson and Danny. :aok:

Yes Jackson was a strong player who gave everything to the cause and a hell of a nice fella. His son Jason was a great wee player as well. :agree:

Yes they did . After a draw at ER . Stuart Lovell missed an open goal in the replay . Sure it was ex Hibby Chris Jackson who scored the winner for them . To make matters worse , it was fin Baltic that night.

Ok my son has outed me as the centre forward in the picture who became an expert at taking kick offs with 21 of them . I was the only player to have a shot for us and the keeper had to run out to the penalty spot to pick it up ! In fairness though we became bankrupt a few weeks before due to bar issues and went from having an East of Scotland team to a Border Amateur team and thought we were doing ok at 5 nil at half time. The Ormand lad scored 7 . I believe that they now think it was only 19. Memories eh !! And yes I am a lot bigger now - thanks son ! As a side note, i played from 8 until 45 , and since i was 20 had a seriously bad knee but played saturdays and Sundays and despite that game I enjoyed it thoroughly. Paul and Jackson who are mentioned were brilliant and still dont know how Paul didnt end up as a pro

I moved to Kelso in about 1986 or 87 and played Hibs first team on my debut. It was the Tuesday night before Hibs played Rangers in first game of season and Souness got sent off for stamp on mcCluskey. We got beat 5 1 but I won the penalty when one on with with Rough and Gordon Rae clattered me from behind, john collins scored 2 brilliant goals.

Thanks for sharing that, mate, and at least you're part of Scottish football history:greengrin. 20-0 against Celtic or Rangers would have been fair enough, but Stirling Albion? Exceptional circumstances, as you say.

At least you don't have the ignominy of being the goalie or one of the defenders :greengrin

I was at that game, used to live in Kelso before I moved south, memory not what it once was or maybe it was one or two too many beers in the Black Swan before !! Some right characters in the United side in those days

Yepp, a few weeks ago. A group of supporters were convinced it was 19 but I think they looked it up and it was officially 20?

We were taken to a club later at Bannockburn and the headlines were all about a Scottish slaughter at Bannockburn. I really thought the press thought we were English even though it was the Scottish Cup. Alex Smith was their manager at the time and had a right good chat with him after the game and he was surprised at how good his team were that day !

Maybe the OP is getting confused with 'The Famous' losing a particular league game 2-0 in the 80's
