Very sad news and from personal experience, an even sadder way to go. AC/DC made up a huge part of my music loving history. Was lucky enough to see them a few times, firstly in 1981 at The Playhouse in Edinburgh.
It would be fair to say that Malcolm wasn’t the ‘greatest’ guitarist ever but as part of the group rhythm section along with Cliff and Phil/Chris, they provided the perfect foundation for a great live act, allowing Angus and Bon/Brian to front the band in their own inimitable way.
For those about to rock - Malcolm - I/we salute you. Fire!!😆🤘🤘

Gutted yesterday when I got a phone call with the news as I was walking along Albion Road to ER. AC/DC have been a massive part of my life since I first discovered them about 1980. Seen them live about 8/9 times one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever. RIP Mal. Thanks for the music, indeed a job well done

Mate, Malcolm is considered one of the greatest rhythm guitarist of all time. I've read many rock/metal musicians claim him as the greatest rhythm guitarist in rock history. Notably Tom Morello, Dave Mustaine and Scott Ian. Many others too. Angus has always admited his brother is/was a better player than him.

You’re spot on. What I was trying to say was he was the bedrock of the rhythm section of the band. My ‘greatest’ reference was meant to mean he wasn’t renowned for breathtaking solos. I’m sure he could knock a few out but within the confines of the band’s style he was undoubtedly one of the best of his genre - i.e. - a superb rhythm guitarist.

Excellent post. I'm sorry I picked you up wrong previously. Obviously Malcolm wasn't renowned for his solo work being rhythem but he performed solo's a couple of times in the early days. You can hear him perform the solo on the song 'You ain't got a hold on me', and Angus and Malcom go back and forth during the second solo on the song 'Soul Stripper'. Both songs can be found on the Jailbreak 74 album.
