Jesus, Radge, do you have an App that delivers the most left-field stories to your inbox?

Sounds harsh but there’s no excuse for a service leaving even 20 seconds early. If someone had turned up seconds after it left but before the scheduled departure time then it could screw that guys day up.

:agree: At the risk of sounding po-faced, even here the bus companies get fined for persistent earliness. Folk miss their buses because of it.

My train from York to Edinburgh on Saturday leaves at 9.53.

If it said 9.53.40, I'd laugh.

This is probably a publicity stunt.

You might well be right. However, on the subject of your train from York, if it was advertised as leaving at 9.53.40, and that's when it left, then that would be grand. If you turned up at 9.53.10 to hear the doors beeping and watched it pulling out of the station, you'd be less than chuffed.
I've just had a look, and we're a bit more lax in Scotland than they are in Japan: the Scottish Government parameters for punctuality (albeit from 2009, don't know if it's changed) are under 60 seconds early to under 5 minutes late.

I've missed more than one train at Waverley because it left before it's scheduled time.
I'll be honest and admit that I always leave it tight but my Casio Waveceptor has been employed more than once to show that the Fife Circle or Perth train (I get off at S.Gyle) has left up to 60 seconds before the timetabled departure,,,,the platform staff just laugh at me, firstly because they're all comedians and secondly because they're Abellio and I'm Network Rail

In the UK, passengers are advised that the train closes its doors a minute before departure.

My train for the Dundee game left bang on time. At least I thought it had.

Maybe it was 20 seconds early. Or late. 🤤
