Nice to see the Hibees top of this league despite the fact Celtic have 6 games in hand!

Also noticed the Huns don't have a team? Anyone know why? Seems strange to not be competing in this league.

CRAIG MULHOLLAND believes Rangers leaving the Under-20s league will be the BEST thing to happen to Scottish football.

Myles Beerman has graduated from the development squad to the first team. This will see the Light Blues’ kids face off against some of the best sides in Europe instead of fulfilling their league fixtures.

Rangers’ plan has received the full backing of the SPFL board and SFA Performance Director Malky Mackay.

Mulholland, who was part of the SFA’s Project Brave initiative which is designed to improve Scottish players, insists something different has to be done to nurture our best talent.

He said: “We need to be radical because we have to accept we haven’t as a country produced players of a level we want.

“At Under-17 level Scotland have qualified for the last three or four European Championships.

“But 37 per cent of the players, who are mainly from Rangers and Celtic, have dropped off.

“What we have to see is what is happening to 37 per cent of the best young talent?

“How can we challenge them to make sure they get better and better until the Under-21 level?

“What other sport would let the best talent drop off from the 17s to the 21s? So this is where we have to be innovative.

Gers’ decision has the backing of SFA Performance Director Malky Mackay
“It is mandatory to have a team in the league, so we are grateful to the SPFL board that they have excluded us for a season to pilot this.

“They were delighted a Scottish club was leading the way with this initiative.”

If it works, Mulholland believes the domestic programme might need to be revamped.

He said: “We want to make it better for every club in Scotland not just Rangers.

“We have had calls with Manchester United, Southampton, Spurs and others to ask if they would be willing to play us.

“Despite where we have been, Rangers is a really attractive team to play against.

“We will play cross-border games three of the four weeks in the month and then in the other week we will look to play a League One or League Two side on say a Wednesday night.

“I think if we take these players out of their comfort zone and challenge them against the Manchester United’s and Manchester City’s they will improve.”

Does anyone have a fixture list for all of the games they have played thus far? Unless I am proved wrong this smacked at the time of nothing more than a money saving exercise.
