Just on the news that, judging by the scarves at the scene, hearts supporter Mark Squires was murdered at Longstone - just think it should be known so we can join in any acknowledgement of the poor guy tomorrow. seems he was a carer and generally just a good man. My thoughts go out to his family.

I knew him as "Squeak"... Known by that for ever even he couldn't really remember how he got the name!

One of life's good guys, and a genuine Jambo... Had some good banter with him over a beer or two.

Rip Squeak.

I know it's a cliche but it puts football into perspective.

Hate to read about news like this.

Very sad and horrible news.

I’m sure any tribute that his family or friends wish to hold tomorrow will be roundly observed.

Absolutely terrible thing - some clown's taken a life and ruined his/hers own life for what ??. Full-time carer for his Mum too, my heart goes out to her and the rest of the family.

I live along the road from there, police have been around all day especially outside the pub and Indian.

Such a horrible story. The one night he gets to go out with his family and this happens. Mental.

A bunch of drunk or drugged up aresholes just ruined so many lives for no reason at all.

RIP

I’m not usually into shows of respect at the game but if there is to be any kind of tribute to the guy tomorrow I can guarantee that both sets of fans will observe it impeccably.

Football is irrelevant when such tragedies occur.
Bless this poor man's family and those who knew him.

Awful. Drove past the scene yesterday when forensics were out knew something awful had happened.

So so sad.
Every life is precious.
Carers really are the unsung heroes that are rarely acclaimed and his loss compounds the tragedy.

My thoughts exactly, not only has this person taken a life but he’s ruined many more. Hope they get whoever done it and he’s put away for life.

Used to know that area really well when I stayed in Edinburgh. Shocking stuff and most certainly another senseless act of inappropriate violence that has tragic consequences.

Thoughts are with the family.

2 men caught and charrged with his murder

http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/our-region/edinburgh/two-men-charged-after-murder-of-edinburgh-man-mark-squires-1-4595048

'The men aged 21 and 23 are in custody and are scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday October 25'

If it is them I hope they get the book thrown at them and not the usual 'Bad childhood' stuff and then the charge is reduced to culpable homicide or manslaughter !

When all is said and done it's just a game of football and incidents like this are just a tragedy. As far as I remember the Longstone inn was a fairly decent boozer years ago so not a place likely to have trouble.

Think the fund raising function was in the Longstone Hearts club, that’s what EEN said
