During a fringe event at the Conservative Party conference, Boris Johnson said Libyan city Sirte could be the new Dubai, adding, "all they have to do is clear the dead bodies away".

At a separate event, Iain Duncan Smith came out with this crap:

Standard Tory language these days, I'm afraid.

Just ask the Gypsies, and taigs.

Johnson is baiting the PM, and she's too weak to sack him.

She doesn't need to sack him now, he's publicly destroyed himself with several acts of buffoonery too far. Good.

Fairly sure folk said the same about Trump!
2 years ago I'd say Hell would freeze over before Trump was POTUS, Farage realised his wet dream and Johnson had a credible shout at residing at #10,,,,

Agree people can say anything and still get voted in. Depressing indeed.

Pretty confident that the ego in search of a purpose that is Boris Johnson has burnt his boats with the selectorate - Tory Party members.

If there's one thing the Tories are about it is power and all the conference rumblings are that he has done damage to their reputation and is incapable of putting party before self. They are unforgiving in those circumstances.

What's lost in all the commotion about the 'dead bodies' comment, the interesting bit is what he's actually saying about Libya, how it's a business opportunity for the UK to come in and turn it into some sort of Mediterranean Dubai for the rich.

We bomb the crap out of a Muslim country in 2011, have no plan for what to do after Gaddafi is butchered by mobs on the beach, allow the groups that we armed morph into a new force which launches a second civil war killing tens of thousands and DIRECTLY leads to ISIS taking control of large parts of Libya, from where a lot of the brainwashed ex child soldiers are now coming to western Europe to blow up our cities.

And Boris is hanging on about making Libya into a new Dubai :faf:

In that respect, using the 'clearing away dead bodies' line was a welcome bit of honesty from the buffoon. At least he's not hiding the tragedy of western foreign policy under the carpet.

You're quite right.

Did anyone do the same about Russian foreign policy at Labour Party conference? Specifically on Syria and Ukraine. May well have been raised because there was an avalanche of fringe stuff going on.

I have no idea. I can't see the connection really.

The parallels of external military interference as tragic foreign policy in both cases seem fairly clear.

I suppose you could search Emily Thornberry speeches on Ukraine and Russia :dunno:

'Compassionate Conservativism' - an oxymoron. Just clear away the dead bodies we contributed to creating then there could be money to be made. Nothing personal; just business etc.

Personally I'm delighted that Theresa is taking 'personal charge' of a massive social housing programme :aok: :faf: desperate stuff.

The Tories building council housing. You wouldn't read about it.

And not a word of apology for Thatcher's past sins in that area.

They’re building so few that she’ll be able to lay the foundations herself

From the moment that May called the election, she has been well and truly played by more savvy and streetwise members of her party. She is perhaps getting plaudits for trying to tough it out but I suspect that she will be rinsed and hung out to dry a few more times before any credible attempt to replace her is made.

I think part of the reason for the delay is that any replacement knows they will likely be in a position of having to call a general election sooner rather than later. After what has happened to May I'm not sure anyone fancies that.

Johnson is an absolute buffoon ..... the trouble is, like it or not, has personality and that's what makes him so bloody dangerous, folk are so easily taken in by personable people they forget to pay attention to their faults of which Boris has many.

As for IDS ........ :faf: :spammy:

And not a word of apology for Thatcher's past sins in that area.

You only have to look around a town like Galashiels to see what was always going to be the outcome of Thatcher's right to buy policy .... within 10 years practically every council house in the better areas of the town were in private hands and all that was left for those who couldn't afford to buy or were just coming up to a situation where they would need their own housing were the areas nobody would choose to live unless they had no other option .... areas where folk either couldn't afford to buy or didn't want to.

I don't blame anybody who did buy, you would have been a mug not to. But at the end of the day it was just another example of the Tories of that era putting ideology before social responsibility .... they never gave a second thought to the social damage they were causing, they sewed the wind, today's generation are reaping the whirlwind.
