Horrible news. Travelled down to London to see The Heartbreakers only 2 months ago. They were brilliant and Tom looked as good as ever. He looked immortal.

Tom was an exceptional song writer and a wonderfully unique singer. RIP

Sad news. Mid/late 70’s was my era for music, with a mixture of Petty/Springsteen/Queen/Thin Lizzy, to name a few
Don’t make music like this anymore

Only 66?

Far too young.

There seems to be some conflicting reports suggesting he is in hospital but still alive.

:singing:
I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
I'm gonna free fall out into nothing
Gonna leave this world for a while

Been singing this all morning.

Great song by the Tomster.
RIP

BBC4 now showing a Rock goes to College from 1980 as a tribute. Only 4 minutes in and I already feel very old.

Remember being in the middle of the front row seeing Tom and the Heartbreakers support Nils Lofgren back in the day. Brilliant live and American Girl has got to be one of the best rock songs ever.

He was the whole package, a brilliant songwriter, great guitarist and a genuinely nice guy. R.I.P Tom Petty, legends don't come around often, but you were certainly one of them.

You could get 8 pints for £2.75 in 1977! My mate still has the stub for row A.
