Hibs target from the summer Luke Berry signed for Luton Town from Cambridge on 25th August.
He is now playing alongside ex Hibs players Andrew Shinnie and James Collins (yes I know).
Instead of playing on front of 17,500 fans in Scotlands top league he is playing in front of 7,500 fans in the 4th tier of English football.
Bad decision by son of Chuck.

I'm sure I read it was Cambridge that moved the goalposts rather than Berry.

He's probably picking up an extra 2 or 3 grand a week. I doubt he's losing sleep.

Luton had 2 bids knocked back which resulted in Berry putting in a transfer request and Cambridge gaving up the fight.

do you know how much he went for?

In the 4th tier?

Maybe a slight exaggeration but he will still be earning a damn sight more than he would of been with us. God the conference is probably not that much of a difference to our wages.

Yep maybe more.

Average basic wage in League Two in 2014-15 was over 40K a year, and you would expect Berry to be one of the higher earners in that league.

Bizarrely, the average wage in that league was £10K a year higher 11 years ago:

Does anyone know how teams at that level can afford wages like that? I know we're all speculating here and don't know much much they or Hibs pay but judging by some of the players at that level I think assertions that they can pay more than us seem correct.

Surely teams that that level won't be getting good TV money. Their gates are half ours which would mean sponsorship etc would be similarly affected.

I get that the crazy money in the EPL has a long reach but not that far down the pyramid?

You wouldn’t believe the money they get in that league. Not all the players but anyone that’s fairly good can get a lot more than what we can offer. It’s crazy!

He's doing better than Simon Church.

Luton are now backed by a development company but I still doubt he'll be getting significantly more at Luton than at ER. His transfer was strange, we were supposedly knocked back on a bid of £250k yet my Luton (ITK) friend says they paid about half of that. And for anyone who hasn't been to Luton, don't!

Forgot about him.
Doesn't appear to have a team yet.

And less than the average Scottish Premiership wage by some distance.

Even if you take away the Tims and Huns, Spfl average wage is higher.

Lower leagues down south are a bit of a mixed bag. Some ambitious teams looking to buy their way out of a division with budgets rivalling Hibs and Hearts, maybe more, and some teams with budgets similar to Queen of the South but keeping up with fantastic scouting and youth systems.

One things for sure is Luton will have probably paid this boy a similar wage to what we would have but he wont have had to move that far in comparison.

Gutted we missed out on this lad from Cambridge Utd. After it fell through we had to really scrape the barrel and sign a full internationalist from Juventus.

I enjoy the National League, but who are these teams you refer to and which SPL clubs, are they beating in wages?
