Not diddy pish like the Kirin Cup or friendlies, but when was the last time we had 3 players play for their countries in the same game.

Or even 2 simultaneously?

Exciting times for sure.

Been looking at games against Engerlund in the late 40's and into the 50's - plenty with Bobby Johnstone and Lawrie Reilly scoring for fun but can't find the 3rd Hibby. Problem is subs aren't always listed.Leaving it to the experts now.:greengrin

If you add in ex players like Scott Brown, Craig Gordon, Berra, Leigh Griffiths (I know🤐). Plus the Lithuanians of J (their winger) and their manager, Hibs and Hearts had 5 players or ex players plus a manager on show tonight. My question to Archie McPherson is why did Barry Fergusson not feature, or any Hun Sevco players. What has this country come to ✊️💪🏿

5 Hibs players lined up for Scotland v Belgium at Hampden on 28 April 1948 (Davie Shaw, Jock Govan, Bobby Combe, Gordon Smith and Eddie Turnbull) Scotland won 2-0.

Substitutes didn't exist back then. Hence why they are not listed.

Substitutes didn't exist back then. Hence why they are not listed. That seems like a reasonable explanation!

Even in international football?

Even in international football?

"Substitutes in the modern sense were allowed in the qualifying tournament for the 1954 World Cup with the first ever substitution occurring when Richard Gottinger replaced Horst Eckel in West Germany’s match against the Saarland. Curiously, subs were not permitted in the finals tournament until 1970."

Didn't realise that a 2nd sub was only permitted in football in 1987!!

That's relatively recent IMO.

They often used to pick a full reserve side.

Cheers, I had a feeling I'd read about substitutes in the 50s.

Pat Quinn is recorded as being Hibernian's first "Official" substitute in a game v Clyde, at Shawfield, on 12 November 1966 which we lost 5-1.

We must have been finished as a club that day! 😉

Thought Sevco had no Scottish players, only Portuguese and Mexican.
