Any striker that plays well against Scotland will score. Especially with our centre half choices. I'd rather they had an off day

If all 4 Hibs players play would that be the most Hibs players taking part in one single international game? I think 4 of the famous 5 may have played in the same game for Scotland.

As much as I want Scotland to win.....Just cant see it.

5/1 Lithuania to win

Just think Lithuania....are a huge price!

It feels wrong betting against Scotland but Slivka to score first at 29/1 at Betfair Exchange (or you can get 25/1 @ Willy Hills) was too good a price. Hopefully Scotland still win though.

In league format, the ranking of teams in each group is based on the following criteria (regulations Articles 20.6 and 20.7):
Points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss)
Goal difference
Goals scored
Points in matches between tied teams
Goal difference in matches between tied teams
Goals scored in matches between tied teams
Away goals scored in matches between tied teams (if the tie is only between two teams in home-and-away league format)
Fair play points
first yellow card: minus 1 point
indirect red card (second yellow card): minus 3 points
direct red card: minus 4 points
yellow card and direct red card: minus 5 points

For once though it was actually a good game to watch from a Scotland perspective. I thought we played some excellent football.

It was also quite funny how many mentions Hibs got..."and here's yet another Hibs player to come on" [emoji3]

Slivka wasn't in the game that much but what he did do was pretty good. Nice ball over the top and thought he was unlucky with his chance, took a great first touch to get the ball under control and it was a clever attempt just off target.

I was quite upbeat about our chances as I'm sure we'll beat Malta and England will win on Monday, in a one off head to head against Slovakia I'm sure we'd have a good chance if hampden is intimidating as it can be (I don't think it's a particularly intimidating place but some big countries have struggled due to the atmosphere).

I didn't realise though that the last game is away to Slovenia, imo that'll end up being our downfall, no disgrace not picking up full points there and I think we could struggle in that game.

theonlywayisup
02-09-2017, 07:41 AM
17 England
15 Slovakia
11 Scotland
11 Slovenia

5th Sept: You would expect Scotland to beat Malta at home. Slovenia should beat Lithuania at home. The interesting one is England at home to Slovakia. Anyone expecting an England win is in for a shock. Yes, England could go out and win it 3-0, but this is not a good England team. I''m going to sit on the fence an say it will be a draw.

18 England
16 Slovakia
14 Scotland
14 Slovenia

5th October: England at home to Slovenia - again, not as easy for England as many expect. But with the finishing line so close, I would expect them to win this one. Then it's the big one, Scotland v Slovakia at a packed Hampden on a Thursday night - the passion, the must win game - we've done it before, we have to win it. I'm going for a home win.

21 England
17 Scotland
16 Slovakia
14 Slovenia

Interesting that if England were to draw again, they would be on 19 points.

8th October: England away to Lithuania. After last nights display, there is no way for Lithuania to win that one - is there? Slivka winner anyone? Slovakia will get an easy three points. So the crunch match is Scotand away to Slovenia - away win and we are into the play-offs, if we are one of the best 8 2nd places.

24 England
20 Scotland
19 Slovakia
14 Slovenia

That's my view on how things will pan out. Three England draws would be funny, but surely then will win at least 2 out of the next 3 games. I'm hoping for three Scotland wins. Win the the support we have from the stands and the way the team is gelling, I think we could do it. Or is it going to be another glorious failure.

GreenNWhiteArmy
02-09-2017, 08:49 AM
3 wins and we'll finish as runners up I'm confident of that.

Ideally by the last match Slovenia are out so have nothing to play for as the Slovaks will take care of Malta with ease.

This has been one frustrating group.

I was over in Malta for the formality of an opening group win.

Strachan got the selection all wrong for the home game vs Lithuania. We started well at both Slovakia and England but ended up losing both 3-0!!?

Dominated Slovenia at home and got the winner late on, ironically after some ass holes booed the eventual goal scorer when he came on. England match probably finished the correct score line as neither team done enough to win.

Last night was quite simply the most professional and best away game I've witnessed in a long time. It was must win and we took the game to them and ripped them apart. "It was only Lithuania" indeed but in years gone by we'd have lost or drawn.

In reality, in terms of results we've had one bad and the rest as expected I'd say? Now is where we need a bit of luck and to get the 3 wins coupled by a wee helping hand from down south on Monday night.

This could be our time, get along to Hampden if you can on Monday. Believe

CMurdoch

The last two posters have laid it all out perfectly.

Re last night. Scotland have played Lithuania many times and have always struggled against them.
Last night was by a street the best Scotland have played against them.
Played them of the park, made them look hopeless.
The thumb since the England game is known to the football world and seen as a match winner. Importantly he will believe more than ever that he can score against anyone.
Robertson was found in space endlessly last night and put in quality ball after quality ball.
We might be on the verge of a decent Scotland team if a couple of quality centre halves can be found.
Berra and Mulgrew did well but one is in the twilight of his career and the other is not a centre half.
