View Full Version : Fair play to the police today

Has to be said that before the match the police were pretty efficient in handling a potentially dangerous incident outside the away turnstiles. A large group of Rangers fans swarmed pretty quickly from two flanks towards the Hibs fans waiting to get in. Thankfully the police formed a cordon with bodies and horses pretty much instantly, and got what was briefly an intimidating few minutes, and a frightening one for some fans, under control without too much fuss.

The pleasure of strolling through a massive group of angry Huns seeing their sad wee faces as we celebrated 21.05.16 was absolutely phenomenal. Pretty mental walk from the bus to turnstiles.

Police were good though. Could have been very dangerous. Seen a few wee kids crying as it got a bit heated.

Yep, police dealt with it quickly and efficiently.

I was in sharp so missed the incident at the turnstile.

Was pretty incident free in the ground (my experience anyway) and you could tell the Police were aware they were under scrutiny. There was loads of them.

I can't recall seeing a single incident from the Hibs fans in the ground

Maybe even the Glasgow polis have realised where the real problem lies?

We overlook the bad blood between them and the hordes following 21.5.2016.

A lassie in row M or N in GW2 was hit on the head by a coin. A few others landed in this area throughout the second half. Police were made aware but realistically there isn't too much they could do as we don't know where the coins came from whether it was upper Broomloan, lower Broomloan or upper Govan or lower Govan stands.

At full time I did see a dirty ******* spit over the stand from the upper Govan though. Pure ****.

Have a pal in Glasgow police who let us know it was similar treatment to an old firm. Seemed or pretty comprehensive to me. Same will be needed for return fixtures.

We really should be looking to cut down Rangers allocation at ER to the bare minimum as not only will we sell the remaining tickets ourselves but it will be easier to police and manage.

Am I not right in saying Rangers don pay for stewards, it's just fan volunteers??

Correct me if I'm wrong?

The return fixture at Easter Road there will be lots of bother. If we give them the full south stand (which I hope we don't) having nearly 4000 Huns in and around Easter Road is going to be chaotic.

My brother was shoulder barged by one of them as he entered the ground yesterday by a man who was well into his 50s and then was told to "**** off ya fenian *******".

His crime? Walking to Ibrox in a green and white scarf and t-shirt.

Nothing was done to the culprit.

Ive no idea. Hope these fans in steward outfits lets call them FanEyes are not rewarded for being bigoted marshalls and is sad they cant afford to follow follow with a ticket. It does question abilty to do job fairly.

The "gauntlet" and welcoming committee on the way into the away end was laughable. Grown men lined up behind the police cordon trying to intimidate Hibs fans as they entered the ground 😂

There was a group of about 10 hibbies who walked the whole way from the Tall Cranes in Govan to the ground giving it big licks and no rangers fans tried anything (which is the way it should be). Very easy to act the big men from behind a police cordon.

Agree with the way the police handled today. Very efficient escort to Govan station. And most of them were pretty sound.

Was a very bizarre walk to the turnstiles. Was naturally giving out a bit to the sevco fans and in their eyes it was genuine fury and hatred - bunch of weirdos

I was in before the trouble started but after the game there was no sevco fans left, they'd all buggered off to their homes and the pubs.

There's no way we should be giving them the full stand. Give them and Celtic 400 or 1000 max and let them queue overnight. We get something like 2% of their ground so let's return the favour.

Give Hearts the full Dunbar unless they start playing funny buggers.

Someone told me there was a group of younger huns throwing stones at the buses, but this was before we'd even been let out of the ground. They were long gone by the time we all exited the stadium.

There's a video going round twitter of a couple of rangers fans chucking stuff over the fence at hibs fans in the away car park.

After we finally got out the car park and headed up to the motorway the only Rangers fan I saw was good old Abdul the only EDL Muslim member. He had his big Union Flag and seemed to be having a great time waving it about. Grinning ear to ear as if he had witnessed a great home win.

Very disappointed with the policing situation on entry to the turnstiles. I think it depended on what time you went in to the ground. There was no segregation as we were walking in - Rangers 'fans' stood on either side of us just watching as we made our way to the turnstiles. A fight had just broken out and to be fair the police were quick to respond as I believe they cordoned the area off shortly after (I was informed of this by the officer stood next to me throughout the game). No idea why plans weren't already in place from the start - a potentially very dangerous situation for the Hibs support.

From a distance I thought it was a wee 14 year old kid. He's pathetic but funny to laugh at.

Seen that also - even scarier that he was indulging his shenanigans with what seemed like a kid not older than a 10 year old.

Seen a bunch of sevconians in suits after the game at the roundabout behind the broomloan spitting and gesturing at a car in front of us in the queue. They seemed pretty chuffed with themselves afterwards too.

I'd put money on there being women and children in that car, wouldn't think they'd start on a bunch of our more colourful fans..

We got in about 2:30 and there was no cordon, but I still felt quite safe walking through them. If anything had kicked off then there were plenty police about so it wouldn't have had a chance to kick off properly. There was two daft wee laddies (16, if that) in cuffs as we walked over, giving daggers to all the hibs fans coming in. Scary stuff :faf:

The cordon after the game out to the road/car park was welcomed though, that's the bit I though it might have got a bit tasty but thankfully it was well handled.

When we got to the car park, the laddies were still there throwing whatever they could over the fence. Bottle of bucky hit the bonnet of the car beside us, bounced off and hit the car parked on the other side of it and smashed. Both cars dented by the bottle.

But all in all, I didn't have any hassle, never really felt in any danger at any point which is how it should be. I know if it was my car or had been hit with a coin I'd be feeling differently of course, but barring a few relatively isolated incidents I don't think it was any worse than normal. In saying that however, there shouldn't be ANY incidents and we should be able to go and watch football and not have to worry about what's coming from above/over the fence...

The welcoming party were all lined up as we arrived, quite entertaining walking through the middle of their hate filled group singing about the glorious battles of 1690. As has been said the majority of the group seemed quite happy standing behind the police/stewards and then pretending they wanted a fight. Vast majority of Hibees were relishing it as far as I could see...i'm guessing there may have been a wee bit bother before hand as we heard a couple of guys had been lifted for fighting?

That aside credit where credit is due. Inside the ground the policing and stewarding seemed pretty good where I was (we were right up at the barrier close to the Broomloan , GW1) and have seen much worse over the years. Let us get on with having a bit of banter without the heavy handed approach I've seen so often at Ibrox i.e lifted and a few hours in the Govan Cells.

Pleasing afternoon all round.
